What exactly is Firefox?
Unfortunately this is not very clear when you go to the site meant exclusively to promote this new-kid-on-the-block browser (https://spreadfirefox.com/)
But at the end of the day you can?t keep a good product down just like a bad product can be marketed only so much. And that is why one feels that this is a browser which is here to stay.
Since Internet Explorer has more or less monopolized the market(as Microsoft would most certainly like it to be) any alternative browser inevitably turns to be a rebel?s hangout meaning it is essentially meant to be used by computer geeks who would like to see the end of Microsoft domination.
The Browser Opera tried to follow this strategy and look what happened. Firefox has on the other hand consciously tried to steer clear of this strategy even in the support forums that are available for this browser. The essential signal seems to be ?Please don?t use this browser as a Microsoft bashing tool, but as a nicer better browser. An incase you want some additional features which you find are presently missing, all you have to do is give a feedback and you can be sure there will be amateurs racing to get onto this job. They have no intention of hiding any of the bugs frequently associated with any newly developed program and all they do is to acknowledge the bug, fix it and release a new edition. At the end of the day isn?t that the sure-shot way of improving oneself?
Firefox is an open source browser. What it means for a non-computer geek like me is that the browser has been developed in a way that future development and add-ons can be done by anyone who wants to go ahead and do it. The end result is innovation and wonderful bells and whistles which they call add-ons. You add-on a small program after downloading and lo and behold a nice little feature is added onto the browser.
In addition you can download themes which is essentially like wall-paper and these can change the look and feel of your browser, which in the first place is very much like Netscape. The browser also has a built in Google search-bar so searching for any information is a breeze.
One useful feature of Firefox is tabbed browsing which enables one to open a new tab rather than a whole new window. Shifting between tabs is much easier and convenient than opening a whole new window. You also have the option of opening all bookmarks in a folder as tabs. This is priceless when you want to go through your favorite sites( which you would have kept in one folder separately) at one go instead of opening window after window.Shifting from your existing Internet Explorer is also not a problem as all the settings and favourites are automatically transferred during the installation.
Another discovery that I made which validates Firefox?s claim is the browser doesn?t send any information from your computer back to the server of site that you are browsing. What this means is you will not be downloading cookies and adwares silently onto your machine without even knowing it.I use a software called No-Adware to remove all spyware from my machine and since using Firefox, this software has not detecting any spyware on my machine. A lot of computer crashes are due to critical adwares infecting one?s system so while using Firefox, you are a much safer browser.
As all web-sites nowadays are essentially meant to use Internet explorer as the browser, you will once in a while come across some sites where Firefox doesn?t work very well especially with the links. However the chaps at Firefox are working on this constantly.
The support and help forums for Firefox are outstanding. You have a problem, you post it on their support forum site and with minutes a helpful suggestion is posted back on the forum.
This is essentially because Firefox is still looked upon as a beta stage browser by its developers and they really appreciate the feedback from actual users like you and me.The result is there have been 20 million downloads of this browser is just under four months. If you are not too happy with Internet Explorer (as I was) please download this free browser from their website.
And don?t forget to tell your friends about your browsing experience. Believe me our suggestions will very soon firmly establish a world class browser.
