After all the hype and hoopla about million downloads and fast browser like never before I decided to test it. I downloaded Firefox which was a breeze and installed it which was the usual.
Then started surfing and I must admit it is a fast browser , it has to be with the cache facilities it has. So far so good. But there are still a lot of bugs and shall I say features to be added. First of all the import favourites from IE was not too useful. I had arranged all the bookmarks in IE, and once imported to firefox all the arrangement was gone.
I also faced problems with could not connect errors whenever I used to try to open links in new windows. I thought maybe my cable connection was wierd but that didnt happen in ie. Sometimes even urls like hotmail yahoo give host not found errors , after one or 2 refresh it loads the page. So I guess it is a bug or something. The real test lied in displaying java and flash stuff.
With the initial download of 5 mb you are happy but another 5 mb or so for java plugin. And another one for flash plugin and another one for some scripting plugin.
Try opening go.icq.com and all hell breaks loose. The icq window will be displayed in a haywire manner. After 2- 3 retries browser crashed. (I guess plugins do that to you ).
Then the yahoo games test. Load yahoo games and you will see the bottom scrreeen chat scrollbars never show up( 800 x 600 resol). Javascript of some pages doesnt work well. My own website javascripts dont work on this browser.
If you are a normal browser of say search engines and emails I think it is a great browser. But for java based applets and things like that it still has lot of work to do.
There are reports that it crashes after u install various plugins. I decided to watch the firefox forum and found people reporting errors which I never imagined.
All in all a good browser but has a long list of things to be corrected to get to IE.
