First impression

To the question above ’Would you recommend Mphasis’ to a friend, there should be one more option Don’t No or Can’t say in addition to Yes and No. When I found myself inclined to post a review, I could not find the third option as it is too early for me to comment in black and white. I recently joined Mphasis 3 weeks before and going through all the joining formalities, now I am waiting for an internal interview call to join a project. These period are eating up my enthusiasm with which I joined the company. During these period what I observed, I just wanted to share to all who would have a bit better informed that me at the time of being interviewed or joining to the company.

The new joinees in bulk are mostly put on bench and are conducted with big slogan or statements regarding policy and culture but in practice does not seem to be so. HR is horrible as it is the first point of introduction to the company. They deal with people like real resource and nothing else. Even they take the advantage of making new joinees fearful of the negative consequences rather than promoting the positive outputs. In one of the induction HR said that people should get the project as early as they can because after 3 months, the employees who do not get into projects would be getting half of the salary.

Secondly by the time you are into project you would be left to roam around library, cafeteria and other places because you will not be provided with a location and system. And this treatment\habit you would have to inculcate as whenever you willl be out of project due to various reasons like project closure, ramp down or any other unseen reason you will be left to either remain at home or come to office to roam around.

There is a small incidence I would like to cite here in this context. HR people talked about many great things as policies of the company. One of them was Open Door Policy and this point was elaborated specifically. I was happy to listen all these things but wanted to test it too. After 1 week I thought to meet HR to say hello as a new joinee and also wanted to clear few doubts which were not addressed at HR helpdesk- an online redressal system as suggested by HR.

To my astonishment, when I tried to connect to one fo teh senior HR executive, I was treated badly and told to go through all the policy documents available at the site. I tried to explain my query and told that before coming to you I have already discussed this with HR helpdesk but they suggested to meet any HR executive in person. But it was all in vain and the main message I got out of this interaction was ’Don’t come to me in future, I am not here to support (’though being a support group)’. This was the first impression I got from HR, now awaiting to see and observe other departments’ functioning. ’Big word but little action’ :)
