John Smith: I missed you
Jane Smith: I missed you too
Sorry, this aint a conversation of a typical American couple who missed each others love. Its of a couple who missed killing each other!
Mr. & Mrs. Smith aptly starts with a marriage counseling session, the Smiths unable to recall the last time they made love or when they first met each other. However, the couple is not your average neighbors next door throwing frying pans at each other! They are cold-blooded assassins, working for separate bosses and earning massive paychecks. Too busy achieving their targets, they fail to spend quality time with each other. One day, they are assigned to hunt down a new victim, a young chap Benjamin. Each reach the destination at the same time. Unable to recognize each other, they exchange fire. In the melee, Benjamin escapes. Later, the Smiths discover the grim truth. Shocked out of their wits, they have only two options left. Should they go for each others throats literally or drop their firearms & pants and continue to make love (no pun intended)?
This is a well-made fun riot. A movie, I feel, designed to be an action comedy that discusses marriage tongue-in-cheek. The action and fight sequences are brilliantly choreographed. Dialogues are hilarious. And about the performances? Hmm...Brad Pitt looks deadly, fights well and its cute to watch him failing miserably to be one up on his wife, either at work or at home. Angelina Jolie looks even deadlier and acts like an unmatched assassin on the prowl highly skilled in wringing necks, throwing knives or growling ferociously at her meddlesome husband! Vince Vaughn as Brads best friend is fun. I was surprised to hear that this Psycho star is having an affair with Jennifer Aniston (Brads ex-wife). If Brad wanted to split Vince with a sledgehammer, he certainly didnt show it on his face onscreen!
cool scenes...
the marriage counseling sessions
Angelina jumping out of a building after an assassination
Brads pale face seeing Angelina with the kitchen knife!
the car chase sequence
Try as I may, I dont see much cons. Ya, the final encounter where the Smiths charge out from a room and fight the baddies looked like a typical Bollywood fare! Brad-Angelina chemisty is fine, no great shakes. If anyone thought the pair was mindblowing in thiz movie, how about Shahrukh Khan-Kajol eh? If the former pair is too hot to touch, the latter will set you on fire!
Jane Smith: Theres this huge space between us, and it just keeps filling up with whatever we dont say to each other. Whats that called?
Counselor: Marriage.
