’’A thing of beauty, is a joy forever’’.Accordingly, this movie is a mesmerising poetry.It depicts the beautiful relationship, that blossoms between a man and a woman, under the threat of survival.The director has visualised a silent painting, and has coloured it, with the backdrop of religious fanaticiscm.
The movie begins , by, a travel, where two strangers, happen to sit together(Raja and meenakshi).when attacked by hindu fanaticists, Meenakshi , overcome by a feminine longing for support, saves Raja(a Muslim), by telling them, that they were Mr &Mrs .iyer.
Then it all begins.they happen to stay in a cottage, where all rythms of life, take their form.Raja, being a stylish, humane wildlife photographer, is somehow attracted to this traditional, comely woman.He admires her fears, her innocence, and childish rebellion.
The others thinking them to be husband and wife, ask them about their marriage and love.Raja starts lying, beautifully.She is overwhelmed to find a person who can recognize her learning(masters in physics).Unknowingly, she loses herself , in admiration , to his fluency, and loves to be taken care by, dominated by him.I was reminded of nietzsche’s philosophy’’women want to be ruled’’.Readers, do, note , she is married.When a murder occurs near their cottage, he knows how to console this woman, take charge of her timidity.Aparna sen , has showed, her mastery in weaving moods.
Meenakshi, bounded by marraige to somebody, is taken by surprise to find a person , whom she could have married.Why did not god arrange this travel and meeting some years before?A question which would arise in every woman’s head, sometime or the other.
It ends suddenly, like a dream, when they find they can have a train to go home.Life, itself is a journey, and their mutual attraction, like fire over water, (comes to an end.He keeps looking at her, her union, having created a deep impression, in him.When they reach her place, she gets down, and we see , real Mr.iyer, a totally different person.None of you can escape that last scene.
