Reality bites. It does and so very painfully. We nest in a world of unpredictable circumstances, where unreasonable misdeed of sacrilegious mavericks is overlooked by many. We crawl in a world where the most forbidden act still costumes our hearts. The most unequivocally detestable act of creating discriminations, producing intolerance between the children of God, giving birth to social conflicts and tantamount to a rationalized behavior has been a great past time of the weeds of the society.
God created us equal and although different sects emerge out enhancing various name of the Almighty, we can have no reason ever to kill humans or look upon any sect of the society as ignoble or as a blister in the body. Director Aparna Sen peeps deeply into the innate mannerism of the lives of various people and gifts us with a movie that stands apart from the entire conventional cinema. This movie is more of a thesis on anthropology and rightly so as it projects the light of trivial situations in our mind and causes our heart to ponder about our symbiosis (if at all it exists) with fellow humans.
An Bird eye view of the story.
Meenakshi played by Konkana Sen belongs to one caste of the Indian Society. She along with her year old infant needs an escort during her travel to Calcutta. Fortunately she is escorted by a humble gentleman Raja played by Rahul Bose The journey begins and emotions come out galore from the various passengers when some unwanted but destined to be situations arise. Reality bites thenceforth. Watch the movie and know what happens to you.
Directors Paradigm
The outlook of a director has been top class. Ambiance gathering around the entirety of the movie presents a real life situation. The basic mannerism of individuals is depicted with uncompromising brilliance. Humane relations are exhibited with precision and while the major bandwagon of society followed the most obvious thoughts, the director keenly tried to extract the part of human sensibility that is quite dormant nowadays. She caused the emergence of certain individualistic behaviors that should be present in all of us but sadly are found only in some. It’s the real life jeopardized situations that can most surely happen to us as well and what we are supposed to do is shown and beautifully knitted in the movie.
Acting
Rahul Bose: He has eloquently put up a great performances. This is the class of acting that should be shown to star sons (Tusshar Kapoor, Esha Deol, Kareena Kapoor and infinite others). Such Star sons should be taught that just by changing the alphabets of their first or last name cant help if you don’t have it in you (The guts of course). Rahul Bose has elicited very humble emotions throughout the movie and that’s what sets the prime mood of the movie.
Konkana Sen Plays a stringent follower of a sect that is abundantly found in India. She plays industriously her character that required peculiar accents on every eyes blink. She maintains a superb presence throughout the film. In fact the more said about her the less it turns out to be. I think you should just watch the film and experience it for yourself.
The bus in which the lead pair traveled symbolized our Indian motto of Unity In Diversity just for the sake of it.
Environment
The ambiance in the bus was very realistic. Youd feel as if our family had also once experienced the same pattern of behavior when you were on an outing. The various characters chosen were also expedient. A group of young friends, A Muslim Couple, Two Sikh Brothers, A mentally challenged boy and some others. This is not the end. Each mannerism associated with every character was shown and given due weightage that supported the main theme of movie very well. Surekha Sikri & Bhisham Sahni deserve a special mention.
Cinematography
Gautam Ghosh framed superb shots throughout the movie. The rain forest was captured beautifully and the gloomy, bleak and moist climate during the Forest sequences was shot creatively. A miniscule movement of the characters in the bus was also prisoned in the camera with highest degree of accuracy.
Music
Zakir Hussein inputs some worthwhile background music which might not sound good on the first instance but with the movie steadily progressing, the music sets in your ears. The keyboard Arrangement was done by Taufiq Kureshi and Salim Merchant(Bhoot Fame)
Names
Names of the characters were superb and the particular name that I liked the most was of the 1 year old child and he was named Santanam
In and out, this motion picture is a sure shot winner in all aspects and such movie sail high in our minds for indelible instances for it shows what we are. It is a mirror that reflects our own mannerism and while you watch it, you too will be shown how you behave while such circumstances arrive. If you feel happy watching it, you are fortunate and if you feel uncomfortable, you have a lot more reorientation of thoughts to do.
