CLI based dialup

Honestly speaking, I am a little surprised when I read the other reviews about MTNL dialup. My experiences are different. I tried VSNL, MTNL, Satyam and Net4india.

I suggest MTNL’s CLI based dialup out of all of them for the following reasons.

Advantages:

  1. The biggest advantage is - no hassles of registration, no filling up of forms or buying packages.

  2. No hassles of remembering password or forgotten passwords

  3. Billed on your phone as an additional service. So this is post paid service.

  4. They have a toll-free number for customer support

How does it work:

If you have not heard of CLI Based Internet Express Service of MTNL, let me tell you - MTNL offers this service where they identify the telephone number you are using when you connect to internet and bill that phone number for the internet usage hours in the telephone bill.

The access number is 4880000

At the user name give the phone number (the number from which you are calling)

password can be anything. (You can not leave it blank, just type any character, at least one)

The charges Rs.600 for 100 hours.

If you want to view the usage details, you can use the option of registering at their website https://cli.mtnl.net.in

More details are available at their website - https://mtnl.net.in

Basically I am not a fan of MTNL and hate them for their inefficiency in basic telephony services.

But my experience with their CLI based dial-up access service has been very good so far. I still have a VSNL account too. But with MTNL, I did not face as many connection problems as VSNL. Browsing speeds are good and MTNL servers always gave me connections while VSNL servers were down several times.

To me this service has all that we look for in an ISP.

Disadvantages :

  1. Not portable. I mean, since it is based on the telephone number you are using, you can use it only from one telephone line. But that is hardly a disadvantage.

  2. Available only on PSTN lines of MNTL (MTNL is only in Delhi and Mumbai)

I do not know much about their customer support - actually the need to contact their customer support never came.
