After messing around - or, should I say, being messed around with - for several years with a cable broadband provider whose service was not satisfactory I finally decided to jump from frying pan into what I imagined would be fire. But I was driven into it only by bad service of my vendor. So prior to Diwali when a friend told me MTNL was offering free Triband connection(that means no installation and modem charges upfront normally totalling over a thousand bucks) I decided to take a risk with MTNLs Triband. It wasnt going to cost me much anyway.
To my great and very pleasant surprise the product has been exceedingly good. I have used it for well over a month now before posting this review and I can gladly report that this is the BEST offering. Utterly cheap at just Rs.749 monthly for the lowest speed of 256 kbps and UNLIMITED DOWNLOAD. My eyes have been opened also by another discovery. MTNLs 256 kbps is delivered without compromise and true to claim. This is as fast as the 1Mbps promised by Hathway. Sometimes when the load is not heavy I have been enjoying much faster downloads than 256. Very recently MTNL has also upgraded all 256Kbps plans to 384 Kbps without additional cost. Also the Rs.749/- monthly cost has been reduced to Rs.599/- monthly. So the Diwali gift is still raining.
It is heartening to see such a splendid product offering from the government-owned company that all these years had been dragged in the mud by consumers for shoddy service. As far as the back-up service itself is concerned, there have not been many occasions that I needed service or assistance. But on the rare couple of occasions that I called their helplines they were equal to the task.
I am also impressed as a customer to note on the MTNL website that the company is so transparent about download speed. It has provided highly useful guidelines, apparently sourced from independent experts, that enable the user to understand what download speed is all about and how to judge whether I am getting what I am paying for. Nice. Very nice. The government sector now leads the way and the private vendors will have a tough time covering their warts.
