Though it is surprising for many of you that I am making a very strong positive review for MTNL (a Government Owned Org). Yes MTNL internet truly rocks and I have the following reasons:
Minimal or no outage. The connectivity is 24x7 (except in rare cases the outage is for an hour)
Excellent customer service. As a Government Org, I would hardly expect any customer service but these guys are professional (though they dont speak flashy English like the private operators) and have a helping attitude. My complaint is addressed on the second day and they do give a follow up calls to the customer for the resolution feedback.
Billing is accurate and bills can be paid online (late fees is Rs 20 and not Rs. 100 for private providers)
You get paper and e-bill on time (connectivity continues even if bill is delayed for some days)
The process to get connection is fairly easy. Call up the customer service and get the doc details and go to the MTNL office and submit the docs and within couple of days the connectivity is on.
They are transparent in dealing. Example they have a plan for Rs. 750 for 15GB download with 2MBPS speed. They do mention that after 15GB the internet speed will reduce to 512kbps with unlimited download.
Cost wise plans are reasonable.
Technology wise they are equally updated as the private players.
A word of advice: have some patience when you go for new connection as it may take a while 30 min to 40 min to process your documentation.
I give full marks to MTNL for its service. I strongly recommend for home wired or wifi connectivity at home. I do not use MTNLs 3G service and so I will not be able to comment on the same.
MTNL rocks.
