I was thinking to shift to mtnl for a year now, was sticking with hathway but they kept increasing their prices...this quarter it was too much for me to bear...paying 530+ for a 512kbps was too much....i enquired on the 1500 number as they said installation would be done by them but no wiring...they would keep the modem next to the phone only.
My problem was that my comp was in bedroom and phone was in the hall. So I ordered a modem router combo on flipkart and it arrived in 3 days. The same evening two oldies from mtnl dropped in without notice. I wasnt at home.My sis n mom had no idea.
My sis gave them the router and wifi adapter. One of them opened the box and dropped the router on the ground at the first go itself and they struggled to go through the setup. Took 1hr 30mins just to login and set the ip address which is supposedly a 10min job. They were reading the manuals in the box...surprisingly the router which I had ordered had exactly same interface as that provided by mtnl...even the colours were the same bt they still struggled
I reached home, setup wifi adapter for my desktop...as my desktop was in my bedroom so it wasnt possible to connect it. neither it had a wifi card and expecting those guys to set it up was too much...
Next week, I called the local electrician to extend the telephone wire to my bedroom as my desktop was not catching signal.Probably the router placed in the hall wasnt positioned at the right spot...i took the router into my bedroom and extended the tel wire from hall to it.
Now its all running smooth. I am paying 550 excl tax and this includes rent for a 512kbps connection...in evening I get double speed. Plus the connection never goes down. Sundays its even more awesome I guess they give u 2mbps on sundays.
So if u are prepared to take the hassle of dealing with mtnl guys who have no knowledge about technology and who send a couple of two old people to setup your connection, go for it the connection is thereafter smooth and I have no issues....its only I had to bear my moms and siss scoldings for wasting their time and they literally fired the two guys for struggling to setup the connection.
