I was surfing the net using Sify broadband(just keeping the cost factor in mind)
Initially all was well for the first few months but later problems started cropping up
1)Server unavailable
2)Switch/Router problem
3)Cable problem
Fed up of all these issues and their couldnt care less attitude of their CustomerCare Service
I decided to switch over to MTNl broadband service
and having a landline telephone connection made it more easier
All I needed to do was fill up a simple form providing basic deatils along with plan opted for
No other documents were needed
Being a PSU I was sceptical about their service and reliablility but decided to give it a try
I browsed through their Website a couple of times to select a Plan to suit my needs
After a lot of deliberation I opted for TriB P 200 plan in which I had to pay Rs 200 as rental/month with 400Mb
free download every month with a assured bandwidth of 256kbps
I had already purchased my own Modem/Router(Dlink T502) for Rs 1400 so there was
no need to hire their modem and pay Rs 80 per month
with safe custody charge of Rs 100 per month
There is no fee payable upfront .All charges are levied from their next billing cycle
Once I submitted the duly filled up form on 28/7, I was told that the work order will be issued in 15-20 days
To my surprise I received a call from them 3 days later saying that the job will be done
within in 5-6 days
The fifth day the technician landed up to configure the modem/router
The installation process was smooth. the technician was more bored with that kind of a job I had guessed
He finished the set up in just 2 mins and left saying if I need any help I could dial their toll free number
The first thing I checked was the bandwidth and sure enough the speedometer showed 500kbps
with a download speed of 200KBps and an upload speed of 40KBps( http://www.speedtest.net)
The connection has the following advantages
1) Extremely good bandwidth connectivity
2) Good upload and download speed
3) Fairly reasonable customer care service
At the same time there are a few disadvantages as well
1) You cant use more than 1 telephone instrument at a time while connected to internet
2) You dont get a Anti virus software with their broadband
3) Their work order issued to grant connections varies from area to area within the same city by as much as 6 months at times
4) Connection is issued only to those having a landline connection
5) No provision for Wireless modem as of now
But by and large it seemed to be a good deal considering their server uptime and bandwidth connectivity
