I am a poweruser with usage of over 10GB consistently every month. I started with Airtel Connection which was great, but when I changed residence thing went bad. Private DSL ISP’s were not allowed by Builder into the complex and MTNL had a waiting list. I tried the local cablewallah’s hathway internet on LAN cable and Reliance CDMA Broadband+ Datacard.
Hathway internet was a torture with weekly downtime and many trojan attacks. Though Reliance Datacard was good, it did not have unlimited plans and network at my residence is not strong to get continuous connectivity. I applied for Reliance Wimax which could not be installed due to lack of range, meanwhile MTNL launched unlimited plan and I found that connections were now available.
The installation was smooth, I opted for my own modem(DLink GLB-802C+ wifi router Linksys 54G). Thereafter things have been absolutely great. The plan changes are done on time, the speed is consistent and uptime is v.good(downtime max once in 3 months).
The call center of MTNL is excellent, I never had a problem in changing plans or logging complaints. The online portal for checking usage is very good and given exhaustive details of connection time/usage. Only thing to take care with MTNL is pay bills timely by due date or the line will get disconnected if you miss even once.
Overall I found MTNL Triband service at par with my experience with Airtel Broadband if not better. The MTNL staff have a typical Govt laid back attitude but work much better compared to it’s monopolistic days.
Update 30.06.2012:- I have been using triband for over 2 years and currently subscribed to their 2mbps xpress broadband combo plan. At any issue, I have got response each time and continue to enjoy trouble free service. I wish for the speed to be upgraded to 4mbps like Airtel which is also now available in our society since last 6mths. Great going MTNL, thanks for wonderful service.
