I have been using MTNL TriBand for over 1 year now. Have switched through different plans including T10, 249, 849 NU and now 256Unlimited.
Speed Experience:
My experience with the speed is excellent. On the 256 kbps line I get in between 180 - 210 kbps using DAP or inbetween 80-150 kbps when I use torrent downloader. I find this very good. Data transfers have been very quick. Havent noticed much speed variation during the day / night even during night unlimited plan.
*Reliability & Customer Service
*Good & reliable service. Did get some problems in account info access towards month ends. Even the web site was non responsive. However the call center response has been good. Frankly, I was a bit surprised with their private like approach even being a Public sector undertaking.
*Overall
*Overall I would say its a good experience! With revised pricing of unlimited plans, it adds to customer appeal.
*Update on 30 Aug 2009
*Its a rather unusual thing that I want to report for the benefit of the readers. On 15th Aug MTNL on its own doubled the bandwidth within the same plan. So my 256 kbps became 512 kbps. As a layman I was expecting an increase in the download speed but to my surprise the download speed has come down drastically. Earlier with Download manager I used to get a speed of 180 -210 kbps. Now with increased bandwidth, I am getting a speed of just 50 -60 kbps with download manager!!!! I have been trying to know from MTNL authorities. But no one seems to have a clue.....
No reponse to the mail sent to Help Desk...Wondering how it has happened and also hope that its temporary. If not, then I plan to change my ISP!! Untold truth - 8 Dec 2009. After a lot of frustrating encounters (numerous mails + calls upto GM level) with so called MTNL service support, I have no choice but to revise my earlier rating.
The untold truth is your download is approx 1/8 portion of the download speed. For example, advertised speed of 512 kbps will give you max 45 - 50 kbps download speed....This is controlled by your ISP. And if one were to believe MTNL officials, all the ISPs do this??!!
In my case above though it was earlier 256 kbps, the speed was upto 2 mbps so I was able to get the speed mentioned above. When it was moved to fixed speed of 512 kbps, the speed came down drastically.... The great discovery thanks to so called customer service! Dont see any better alternatives for the package & pricing so for the time being I continue with them.
