Reality TV dominates the Indian television industry alongside saas-bahu and other soap dramas.
Reality shows come under different categories which include singing and dance based shows, performance based shows, comedy and many more. But, as the name ’Reality TV’ suggest, how much of the stuff shown on these shows are absolutely authentic/real?
On the basis of the above question, I feel that it would take a lifetime for an ordinary viewer to understand the concept of the reality show named MTV Roadies.This show is truly one of its kind where a group of participants or ’Roadies’ as they are called perform tasks in different locations across the country travelling by road.Along with the tasks in each episode, a lot of bitching, politics, abuses, insults, etc are used by the participants against each other to kick/vote somebody out in each episode.
The show is currently in its fifth season.I was highly amused to see the remaining 10 evicted roadies(out of 13) insult and abuse three of the final paricipants named Sonel, Nihal and Ashu to the core in the 2nd last episode of the roadies finale which was aired on the 17th of May, 2008. Firstly, I was quite shocked to see Ankita Bajaj and Prabhjot were also a part of the gang who abused Sonel(I really didn’t expect this from Prabhjot since she was quite a good friend of Sonel as evident in the show and the same for Ankita bajaj).Secondly, there was absolutely no reason for Ayaz to fight with Nihal since there was no enmity between them till the vote out of Ayaz .
I feel that most of the politics and bitching on the show is all being planned by the creative heads(probably Raghu) since it all looks artificial. Good friends turn foes and turn friends. What would be the reason for 13 strangers to come together on 1 day and then start bitching about each other from the very next day in order to kick somebody out? Thus I feel that many of the things shown(except for the tasks) are quite fake and not genuine.
