For many years, television has had umpteen shows about families. Father Knows Best, Leave It To Beaver, The Donna Reed Show, Happy Days, Everybody Loves Raymond, and so on and so on.
But it has never had a show on like The Osbournes!
On the very first show, we see the Osbournes moving into their new California home and unpacking boxes labeled, pots and pans, sweaters, dishes, dead things, crucifixes, etc. Aha, a hint of things to come.
MTV is running a 13 week reality show starring Ozzy Osbourne, his wife Sharon, daughter Kelly and son Jack. (Daughter Aimee left home just before shooting the first episode. She didnt want to be embarrassed!)
The show follows the entire family, including a nanny, about 7 dogs and 5 cats and many, many friends and neighbors around all day and well into the night.
If any of you dont know who Ozzy Osbourne is, let me tell you a little about him. Ozzy Osbourne started out as the lead singer with a group called Black Sabbath about 25 years ago. The group was known to be hard drinking, druggies, who sang about death and madness and the devil. At one time, years ago, Ozzy was said to have bitten the head off a live bat on stage! The music was hard rock then and now that Ozzy is on his own, it still is!
After many years of alcohol and drugs, Ozzy is kind of a burnt out 55 year old, non typical dad.
The entire family yells, curses and spews obscenities at each other and their friends. The untrained dogs use the priceless oriental rugs as bathrooms.
Kelly (17) and Jack (16) use fake IDs to get into clubs and drink and dance without curfew. Jack has also admitted to smoking other than regular cigarettes.
Mom, Sharon has had a feud with the neighbors and has resorted to throwing food and other things over into the neighbors yard. She has even resorted to urinating in her son Jacks friends drink, solely because she doesnt like him.
Ozzy, trying to be a real dad, tries to teach his kids about the harm drugs and alcohol will do to them. (He doesnt have to teach them, all he has to do is stammer about the house in his burnt out manner, and hopefully the kids will catch on!)
Henry Winkler (Who played The Fonz on Happy Days) when asked about the show told reporters that The Osbournes is the only show that comes close to what real life within a family is.
The show is on Tuesday nights at 10:30 PM on MTV.
Its really a blast! Its the most honest reality show on TV!
It is definitely NOT for young audiences. There is a lot of very strong language and sexual innuendos. But I must say......I wont miss an episode. It will keep you rolling on the floor laughing.
Some of you may NOT like the show because of the way the family speaks to each other, but, it is worth watching just to see Ozzy.
(Taken From CNN.com news......Last weeks episode, seen by more than 6 million viewers, snagged a 19-share among adults 18-34, beating everything else on cable and the major broadcast networks.
