No words can describe Mughal-E-Aazam; peerless ; spectacular way of showing historical saga; marvellous acting by everybody; charming songs; wonderful dialogues in pure & sweet Urdu !! No one can match this type of a movie made in those days where film technology was not upto the mark. It is total devotion & hard work by everyone ; no short cuts ; all made to realities...!!

It took 14 years for Mr.K.Asif to make this very extra-ordinary film based on ’’Salim (played by Dilip Sahab); Anarkali (played by VENUS of India;’’Madhubala’’) & Greatest Moghul Emperor;Jalaluddin AKBAR (by Prithviraj Kapoor; father of Rajkapoor;Shammi & Shashi kapoor).
Although before this movie ’’Anarkali’’(of Beena roy & Pradeep kumar) was also released & was hit. But K.Asif managed to make this movie with same story ’’a magnificent drama’ into costliest movie of those days!( I think those days 1 crore Rupees or more; because those days an avarge film was made in 1 to 3 lacs of rupees only!!)
It was released in a new & ultramodern theatre(MARATHA MANDIR;Bombay Central). Whole theatre and outside lawn was made in a royal darbar Of Moghul Emeror;big statues were of Dilip Kumar with Madhubala; and second of Prithvi raj Kapoor; tickets were colored with photos of leading pair; worth od Rs.2/- of Dress-cicle; today you donot get anything of Rs.2/-)<b/>
I watched this movie because it had my favourite actor(Dilipkumar). This movie ran housefull for full one year. So far no Hindi movie in India could break its record)
Songs by Naushad (king of music) were very much hit. ’’Pyar kiya to darna kya;Pyar kiya koi chori nahi ki’’ by lata was shot in ’’SHEESH-MAHAL’’. This song had become so popular; it became routine to say ’’Pyar Kiya To darna Kya’’ whenever; we hear love story of any couple!!!)
Other songs ’Muhobbat ki jhoothi kahanipe roye; Badi chot khaye Javanipe roye’’’’& ’’’Zindabad o zindabad’’ ( where more than hundred singers had sung together this chorus ; which was unique!!)were also finding place in ’’BINACA GEET MALA’’ those days regularly( every Wednesday at 8 pm).
Acting by Dilipkumar like ’’MAGHROOR SHAHEZADA’’was
extraordinary. Even Prithviraj & Madhubala did excellent job.Madhubala standing like a ’’statue’’ in front of Akbar;Salim & others is worth watching! Even Ajit ( acting as Rajput) was very impressive. Durga Khote( as Jodhabai); Murad; Johny Walker; Jalal Agha( as child artist played as youung Salim) were excellent!!
Songs were written by Shakeel Badayuni. He was well known Urdu poet those days; and was from Badayun. Those days ’’Urdu’’ was compulsory for every song;and not broken Hindi; as is there today!!
