Mujhse Shaadi Karogi
Starring: Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra, Amrish Puri, Kader Khan, Rajpal Yadav.
Directed By: David Dhawan.
Preview:
I watched this film alone as none of my illustrious friends would accompany me to a David Dhawan brain-jerker. Afer all, we had spoiled many a weekend by watching films like Hum Kisise Kum Nahin, Gharwali Baharwali and the likes from the 2000s David Dhawan stable. Fortunately for me , I saw the first day night show of Mujhse Shaadi Karogi which belongs to the 1990s David Dhawan genre of cool time-pass movies like Coolie No 1, Hero No 1 and the likes.
Protagonists
Sameer - Salman Khan - a short-tempered heart-broken fella.
Sunny - Akshay Kumar - a small-time rogue.
Rani - Priyanka Chopra - a pretty damsel.
Premise:
Sameer & Sunny fighting to woo Rani. Sameer is the short-tempered heart-broken fella who falls head over heels in love with his neighbour, Rani, but to no avail. All he ends up doing is accidently hitting her army oficer father(Amrish Puri) and gets curses in return. Enter Sunny who shares Samirs room and ends up fighting for Ranis charms. The game of one-upmanship is the basic premise of the film. Reminds one of Andaz Apna Apna, Shagird & David Dhawans own Deewana Mastana.
Then there is Kader Khan as the landlord, Rajpal Yadav in a double role, as Salmans astrologer friend & as a member of the Eagles gang, and Amrita Arora, as Sameers ex-girlfriend to add to the confusion. The climax is a big bonus for all Cricket fans with the presence of current Indian stars and the pasha of cliches, Navjot Singh Sidhu, doling out the expert comments. We get to witness one of the wackiest comic triangles in recent times.
Performances:
There are no oscar-worthy performances in this film, but films of such genres do not demand award-winning performances. Salman Khan & Akshay Kumar gel very well together and their the camaraderie is simply amazing. Their fight to woo their sweetheart has a classical touch to it. Priyanka Chopra, the centre of attraction, looks pretty and is just about passable. Amrish Puri is very assured and turns in a good comic performance. Kader Khan, who is shown to suffer from different disabilities every day, is very likeable. Rajpal Yadav is his usual bumbling self. Overall, very competent performances.
