I would say that after this film we should divide successfull films into two parts which according to me are as the first part in which film manages to make you entertain and happy with no emphasis on script and other technical aspects.
Which make money like partner, welcome and others while second half are those films although are short on entertainment value and glamour of regular bollywood stuff but still manage to blow you away mainly with its content and technical brilliance and well mumbai meri jaan certainly belongs to second part as the film has a strong script, excellent screenplay, strong performances backed by strong direction which makes this based on true life incident an engaging and convincing product so my request is that you go catch this film mainly for its sincerity and effort even though it is short on entertainment value but it still manages to ask you questions and I dont thonk you come out disappointed
story
the film mainly is the story of six different people from different stratas of society who are not connected or related with each other but how all of them are psychologically affected by bomb blast on 11th july 2006 so in short it does not deal with investigation or terrorist activity but more with pychological effects on ordinary people so first we have two cops tukaram patil(paresh rawal) who has completed thirty years in police force and is verge on retirement and has not done anything in his career and does not care about the blast while other is kadam(vijay) who is hounded by his conscience but still does illegal things to sustain himself while in other part we have patriotic executive nikhil(madhavan) who believes in making a difference and hence travels by local train to reducepollution is scarred for life and is scared to board trains as blast rock train in which he was travelling on other hand we have story of rupali(soha) an hot shot tv reporter who believes in getting bytes and does not care about the victim is severly shocked and emotionally destroyed when her fiancee dies in the train blast and she herself becomes sensational news fodder then we move to suresh(kaykay) an umemployed hindu man who after the blast beomes a fanatic and starts thinking of every muslim as a terrorist and does not want to work with muslims even when he is in desperate need of money and last but not the least we have thomas(irfan) a poor coffee vendor who after feeling insulted when he is thrown out of a mall makes use of the blast and starts making hoax calls to spread panic and take revenge for his mistreatment by the society and the film ends with all of them overcoming their fears and problems by their own ways so I would say film is spectacular but it still falls short especially in the blast scenes and also it could have done with editing as some scenes ask questions why this scene is over here in film so go discover mumbai
