Mumbai meri jaan is a kind of a movie which rarely comes and which everyone should definitely watch. It is an eye opener and gives a message which is very important in todays times.
The film is based on july 11 local train bomb blasts which took place in mumbai city in 2006 which shook the entire nation and took life of almost 200 people and destroyed many lives. It explores the impact of this devastating incident on the lives of the people of mumbai. It showcases the life of people from all strata of mumbai city like an ambitious journalist on the peak of her career, a patriotic corporate man, a retiring policeman and a rookie cop, a xenophobic and an unemployed young man and a coffee vendor struggling to survive and belong.
The film showcases the impact and the repurcussions of the bomb blasts on the lives of these people living in mumbai. All the characters shown in the movie are extremely real and one can easily identify with them. The screenplay of the film is brilliant and keeps u hooked till the end. Editing of the movie is crisp and smart and all the stories of different characters are perfectly shown without confusion and the movie never drags or moves away from its basic premise.
Dialogues are natural and cinematography is superb. But the real reason why this film works is because of first rate direction by nishikant kamat and brilliant performances by its ensemble cast. Soha ali khan gives a chilling and hairraising performance, Irfaan khan is natural and KK is as always superb and he brilliantly shows his hatred and confusion about the muslim community and R madhavan is extremely believable as a patriotic and responsible citizen and later he brilliantly shows the transformation when he is scared and thinks of shifting to usa. Paresh rawal gives a stellar performance and his retiring speech brought tears in my eyes and also his colleagues performance gives u goosebumps.
There are a number of scenes which will shook ur soul completely and the bomb blast scenes have been shot superbly and the scenes after the blasts like dead bodies lying in the coach and on the tracks gives u goosebumps. The film gives an important mesage on hindu-muslim unity and the way it gives u message is commendable. The film also teaches us to respect and treat every religion equally. THe movie also comments on modern day journalism and how it has become a business rather than social service and how media sensationalise everything for trps. The movie is a salute to the city of mumbai and its undying spirit. It is a must watch movie and it is bollywood at its superb best
