Madness in Mumbai

I was caught in Mumbai on my visit to the city between 25-07 to 30-07 when the flood sitiuation was at its worst. Instead of cribbing about the situation I would like to share the following survival tricks that I learnt:

  1. If the situation is bad never venture out after 6PM as maximum damage as well as deaths happened to people who ventured out in the night.

  2. Leave behind your valuables when you are venturing in a flood like situation.

  3. Get tips on road conditions from friends/contacts whose offices/residence are enroute(I had to travel from BKC to Goregaon and I sought tips from friends having offices/residence in bandra, andheri etc.). Even news channels are of help.

  4. Always move with the crowd as generally that is the best path/route available.

  5. Break for water or other relief available enroute as it not only rejuvinates you but also your spirit and helps you in your onward journey.

  6. Keep spouse/friends informed about your movement at regular intervals as they are getting anxious.

  7. Finally Airport: Park youself near’Check-in Counter’ and keep pestering the airlines staff for a seat. You may never know when luck might favour you.
