Floods in Mumbai

A day before the heavy downpour things looked quite normal & good, no one expected such a disastrous day ahead. On tue morning I as usual left for my office in bandra.

I left for my meetings frm office in da morning, was slightly drizzling that time.I stopped over for lunch at a friends café at carter road but that stopover looked like a long one.It started pouring cats & dogs all of a sudden & never stopped thereafter.

Things started looking a bit serious so I caught a auto & left from carter road. But things just didn’t end there, the roads were badly logged with water, trees uprooted fallen on the road. The traffic which was moving quite freely got jammed.People started running helter skelter for shelter. It was a tough time coming out of the lanes of bandra towards linking road as all the lanes were filled with knee level water.Linking road was in a shape which I have never seen in my entire 25 yrs. There were cars stuck in the middle of the road in water with the owner paddling away for help, never ending traffic of cars, busses, bikes etc.

Children, oldies, couples all walking towards their destination with the rain increasing every minute & the water level increasing every minute.I got held up in the traffic for almost for half hr that’s when I decided to leave the auto & join the bandwagon.

Zipped my jacket collected some courage & set out for the most tedious & longest walk of my life.At first it was all looking quite scary with the water level increasing till the waist & the fear of slipping. But as I walked on & on with thousands of other commuters things started looking a bit relaxed as every inch made me feel closer towards my home.

Each & every part of my leg started achin badly but had to put the pain aside & had to march towards home.Luckily there were areas where there was no water flooding but there were areas which were completely flooded. To sum it up it was quite an experience as it was something which no one even dreamed about & I am sure no one wants to even dream about.I consider myself lucky to get through safely during that horrifying situation but my heart goes out to those many people & their families whose lives have been snatched away by one of nature’s worst ever calamities.God bless their souls.
