I have spent my childhood in Bombay. We lived on Worli Seaface. I attended Don Bosco, Matunga. The day I left that city was the saddest in my life. One of the reasons I visit Mouthshut despite being abused regularly is that its my link to that great city.Nevertheless, Bombay was once a princess dowry. After independence it became indias commercial and financial capital. What makes this city special is its never-say-die spirit.Cliched as it may sound its the ultimate melting pot.People come here from all parts of india in search of impossible dreams. And this city gives generously to all.Its a land of equal opportunity, a meritocracy. It symbolizes the indianized american dream-if you work hard enough anything is achievable. This is a city lined with gold and everybody is a gold-digger.And I guess rightly too.
There are cities and cities in India but none quite like Bombay.People have great hope in Bombay, its abillity to include and integrate disparate tendencies into something positive and fruitful. As a bengali I was greatly respected in Bombay. Not so on MS where somebody said that I was shameless enough to write despite bad ratings.Perhaps comments like this are symptomatic of those who colluded with the terrorists to cause this catastrophe. We are one country, one people and neither terrorists nor bigmouths can break us apart.Long live Bombay and let its greatness inspire us all to greater heights!
