The Family Express

Well, I like Kamal Hasan best doing comedy. I loved Mayor Saab, Appu raja, Chachi 420 and I LOVED MUMBAI EXPRESS.

The film starts on a very slow note. Remember how some kids start telling a joke with ’’Ek baar naa kya hota hai, ek naa... ek baar naa... ek raja hota hai....’’

The joke may be good but you get irritated by such prologues. Same is the case with MX. But luckily, film soon gains momentum and the non-stop fun ride begins.

I don’t want to get much into story but here’s the gist:

Three men plan to kidnap a child but one of them falls sick and his brother-in-law Mumbai Express is called in. Confusions over confusions prevail and the wrong kid is kidnapped. Mumbai Express a.k.a. decides to return the child to the mother and in the process falls in love with her. But more confusion is awaiting...

The film relies heavily on dialogues so make sure you don’t miss out on even a single word. The comedy of confusion in the complex is hilarious simply because of the dialogues which seem like correct answers to wrong questions.

Vijay Raaj, Saurabh Shukla, Om Puri are first-rate. The actor who plays the dumb sidekick and the actor who plays the insurance agent are too good. They really surprise you.

If I get down to nitpicking just for the sake of it then I should say that Kamal Hasan looked very old, Manisha had nothing to do, Raza Murad was wasted...

But yes, the look of the film is real disappointment. The film has been shot on DV. The quality of reverse telecine is very poor. The special effects are extremely shoddy.

Music is smooth to ears and editing by Ashmit Kunder is really good. The pace of the film follows a certain graph which is really well-toned.

All said and done, Mumbai Express is a film which you can watch with your whole family. But it will still take time for Indian Audience to divert their attention from Veer-Zaaras to such sweet comedies.
