[I am editing this post based on visit to the same place recently on Valentines day (2007). The place has changed, the interiors are impressive. Food presentation is neat and a lot more tastier.
Updated verdict: This is a good place to try some nice thai food in a not so expensive place.
Thai Ban is located bang opposite my work place. After a lot of planning and failing finally one fine evening I was able to drive up to the place with my family for a quiet dining affair - but boy WAS I disappointed! big time.
First, the interiors - dim lighting make the place kind of a bit dull - Not really an exciting place for family dining Suitable college gangs, couples or just buddies out for a bite. The walls were badly maintained the AC was not doing so well, either. The TV was damn loud and maybe too personal - but the songs playing were really bad at the time of my going.
Service - lets start with the ordering, the waiters were lost when it came to ordering for Moctails & Desserts. The drinks came much after we had finished with our starters. One of the waiters even picked up our dinner plates inspite of us ordering a repeat of noodles. At the back-end the waiters didnt seem to have connected if the table was done or not!
Food - the starters were kind of sad. The dry noodles were bloody too hard. The panner satay was not the paneer you really enjoy MUCH too hard for a nice satay. The thai green curry - GOOD! the Pai Tah (Veg) noodles - just too sweet no spice no sour! We had to pour the left-over curry to give it some nice taste. And the combination made it really worthwhile.
Final Verdict - Its a place you dont want to desire. Go for it if you really want to eat THAI food and are on a shoe-string budget then its your best bet. Otherwise - AVOID!
