I think this was one of the more original movies of 2003!!!…and to top it all it was good, clean fun.
Let me summarise the story –
The plot is about a guy who has run away from his village when he was a child and lands up in Mumbai. Here he turns into a don(Munnabhai) though a soft-hearted one(he just uses the wrong means to get to the right ends!!). After 15 years, he calls up his parents in the village and when asked what he does for living- he blurts out that he is a doctor. so every year when the parents visit him in Mumbai the whole adda(from where he operates) gets converted into a Charitable hospital. He has got a trusted lieutenant called Circuit to help him out with everything. Everything is fine till his dad meets a doctor friend of his in the city and the truth is revealed in not so gentle fashion!! From there on starts Munnabhai’s attempt to get through the MBBS by hook or crook just to get even with the Doctor who revealed the secret to his dad and insulted them.
What I liked about the movie –
The Plot – After years of watching Bollywood movies I have become immune….even if this movie in the end would have showed that actually something inspirational happens and our HERO becomes a MBBS for real…I would have still liked the movie!!!Thank God though that this was not so!!.
Sanjay Dutt – According to some reports - Shahrukh was supposed to play this part earlier…again thank god he didn’t…he would have hammed to the hilt…Sanjay Dutt on the other hand did ok with this.
Arshad Warsi – He was great in this film. I would like to see more of him In the times to come.
Bomman Irani – I am a absolute fan of this guy…anybody seen Lets Talk will agree that he is a great actor….he is both a cold-hearted guy who doesn’t care about the feelings of others and a very caring father at the same time. One actor I could keep imagining in his place was Anupam Kher, but he has done lot of such kinds of role and therefore boman in that role is a refreshing change.
The cons –
Music – Only two songs – subah ho gayi mamu & Chan chan are good. Worst album to come out of Viddu Vinod Chopra stable who has come out with such good music in his films like Mission Kashmir and Parinda.
More Mumbai Centric – The jokes and the language is more Mumbai centric. Though I enjoyed it thoroughly I am not sure of others!!(I was watching this movie with a couple of guys who are from south and they did miss a lot of jokes)
Overall it’s a very good movie and I am already curious about the sequel they are planning.
