It has been years since I have watched a clean , honest & to the point comedy !! to be honest , we can remember very few recent comedies - say ishq, andaz apna apna , chachi 420 etc. etc. However, Munnabhai MBBS is different !!
I might not hve tooo much of different comments to be made than the reviews written here , but a few things about the movie are certainly worth a mention
- The movie as rightly pointed out is a family movie , without any obscene scenes , language and certainly a very good theme !! Some of u might ask me whether it is appropriate for the children to watch such a movie that involves telling lies to parents etc.
But my view is probably one catch teach ur children how an effective comedy can be constructed purely on a good theme , without any artificial laughter .....( as in the case of many serials ) and most important , how can comedy point out the serious chasms in social system. I think , we can teach children how to appreciate humour without necessarily getting into double meaning jokes , or something !!
- Some of my friends in medical profession , might object certain things ...but director has categorically made it a point that SANCTITY OF MEDICINE as a profession is NOT HARMED or QUESTIONED at any point in the movie.
This is I guess a commendable job as we have always observed in hindi movies -- many times the mockery of a profession crosses the limits to the extent that we feel that these professions r not worth anything great !! Full points to the director , for this BALANCED APPROACH
Very few movies actually MAKE U THINK , thankfully munnabhai is certainly one of these !! one certainly starts thinking about the basis of medicine , the increasing beauraucracy in hospitals , casual approach of the staff etc. while watching the movie. So on a lighter vein , the movie creates a great impact --- this makes the director a success !!
Although Munna is depicted as a ’’BHAI’’ , thankfully the character is seen to follow certain good principles , this is a rare change without glorification of the role of Bhai --- the emotions are given somewhat more importance , this I believe is strength of the movie.
It is not that movie is full prooof ---- the supposed cabaret in hospital for a dying patient -- was not actually needed !! this kind of FRIVOLITY can be avoided -------
HOWEVER , considering the implicit message of the scene , we can forgive this lapse !! It is often seen that EXAGGERATION leads to some of the best comedies -- Munnabhai is certainly an example of this !! Certainly the effort is commendable .................
Gracy is perfect in all the angles ! though the scope of character could have been wider. Munna’s parents are also painted well !! overall , I believe some movies are worth a mention a great deal .......... certainly a must watch ! n I give full points on RELATIVE BASIS -- considering the lack of ’’clean’’ ideas and good humorous themes in the current bollywood movies , I believe the director deserves laurels !!
