On our second HoneyMoon : ) we were headed towards Munnar. We reach Cochin through train and then had booked a cab which we were using all our stay in Munnar. Enroute from Cochin to munnar was memorable. The weather change was soon evident when we reached the foothills of Munnar as sultry weather of cochin gave way to chill breeze setting the right tune for our trip ahead. Picturisque is the least one can say of the road all through the hill.
You can find Elaichi, Tea, Pepper all through the hills and in almost every house. Jackfruit, coffee berrys are also found aplenty. Animals cannot be spotted from the road though you may spot an Elephant if you lucky!
We stayed at BlueBerry resorts in Munnar and rested until noon, had lunch and then started our journey to discover munnar. We saw LockHeart spot where rocks meet in such way to create hear shape and then headed to Devikulam which is about 30-45 minutes journey. Devikulam lake was such a sight to behold. Then we headed towards 3 dams (names I do not recollect) all of them were excellent and motor boat ride in Mattupetty dam deserves special mention and will stay in our hearts forever as we did a titanic pose and our boatman clicked away to make it a lasting memorablia.
Next day it was raining and we didnt step of our cottage, in any case we were honeymoon, what if its second moon, still privacy and solitude is a joy to relish for young couple isnt it?!
3rd day we went to Aanaimudi hills and on reaching the spot, vehicles are not allowed, and one has to walk up the hill. Anaimudi is the tallest peak in South India 2695 m (though we are not allowed to climb the entire alitutude). Nilgiri Tahr (rare moutain goat) can be spotted here.
4th day we went to Eravikulam National Park is the habitat up the Rajamalai hill.
5th day we went trekking on our cottages private estate. The garderner was a localalite and he took us through the entire trekking experience. We will never forget the experience. He took us to spots which are hardly known as tourist sites but were breathtaking, the waterfall (known as powerhouse waterfall), traditional temples in and around munnar tucked underneath hilllocks, tea estates, various vegetations, tribal village, everything was exciting to say the least. But be prepared for this trekking experience with trekking shoes that you are quite comfortable in as the route is very slippery. I also had an uninvited vistor in the form of lynches (blood sucking insect) beware of them ! Wear fully covered denim pants while trekking and never go alone, always take a localite along as you may get lost in the numerous estates and also meet some poisonous reptiles on your way if you are caught on the wrong foot!
6th day we were tired from trekking and resting (honeymooning!!), in the evening went to munnar town(market area), a Murugan temple atop a small hillock. Purchased tea & spices (they are very cheap here, grab them)
7th day we headed back towars cochin, where we had one-day local sight seeing before embarking on our journey back to chennai.
Second honeymoon has ended but the memories of the same will linger in our minds & hearts forever!
