We went to Munnar for a holiday and were initially booked into Cloud 9 Resorts. We had a terrible time there until we moved to the High Range Club where the service was superior by an order of magnitude.
Cloud 9 is barely accessible and on narrow roads that have few barriers. It also takes an hour and a half to get to town or any of the many attractions Munnar has to offer. (plus 1.5h back) The road there is nauseatingly bumpy. In the evenings, it is poorly lit.
Hire your own car: If you dont previously hire your own car, you are at the mercy of the overpriced packages that the management of Cloud 9 has to offer.
Rude management at Cloud 9: The senior management at Cloud 9 were downright rude to us when we requested a reduction of our 5 night stay to 3 nights due to the inaccessibility of the attractions. They insisted we pay for the 5 nights and to our surprise threatened legal action. More than this, it was the menacing tone with which the GM (Sudhan) spoke to us. Being so far from anywhere, we feared for our own safety and agreed to 4 nights.
Poor service: Sheets were unclean, and the bathroom was only cleaned once in the four days we were there, despite many calls to the Service crew. When we had in-room meals, the plates were not removed from the front of the hotel for nearly a day. To be fair, the boys at the restaurant did their best to please us, and the food was good.
It was a relief to get out of there! We moved to the High Range Club in Munnar where the food was excellent, room was comfortable and the staff were super friendly. I thoroughly recommend the High
Range Club to anyone.
Munnar itself is beautiful - apart from the hassles at Cloud9, it is a great place.
