Mussoorie is beautiful, no doubt about it. It is the nearest hill station from Delhi.
I went to Mussoorie on my wedding anniversary for one week. We stayed at mall side hotel Honey moon inn. Small and good hotel.
You can take Dehradun shatabdi from New delhi railway station around 7 AM. It reaches Dehradun around 12. Journey ahead can be continued by taxi which you will get outside railway station.
If you plan to go by your own vehicle, Muzaffarnagar to Saharanpur road is not advisable for traveling at night. Lots of accidents and vehicle lootings take place on this stretch of highway especially in night. Travel in day light only on Delhi-Dehradun road.
Mussoorie’s is famous for another reasons too. Some famous personalities have made Mussoorie their home.
Ruskin Bond is one of them, he lives there and has written alot about this region in his books. He has added some literary value to mussoorie. He has written about train journey’s from Delhi to dehradun. Actor Devanad and Tom Alter have their houses in mussoorie. Victor Banerjee has his cottage here. He comes here for holidaying.
We requested our hotel manager to arrange an appointment with Ruskin bond, as other personalities are very busy and very less chances are there, you get to see them. Meeting ruskin bond has got fair chances. We were able to meet the writer there. He is very humble and loves meeting people. I reminded my wife about his stories we have been reading from childhood. We talked on his books about his vision on himalayas.
Famous Wood Stock school is here. Infact some schools are more than 100 year old. They have a got rich traditions and a class of education which is unmatched.
The real essence of a place lies in local people. We met local people there, talked with them, discussed local environment issues and much more. We came to know every hill in this region has got two names one local and another a number given by government agencies.
Later, we were invited to a local wedding there, It was typical hill region wedding. Girl is treated as princess and boy becomes prince with mukut and local dresses. People dresses well and when they walk on hilly roads, It is a really great site. Local food like Ghot pulse is cooked differently in various ways. It is very tasty local food.
We went to surkhanda, dhanaulti, different other places. We decided to trek from mussoorie to campty falls. It was a real great experience, walking in heavens.
Mall road in Mussoorie becomes alive in evenings and evenings in Mussoorie are very nostalgic and memorable. Offseasons in mussoorie are really enjoyables and you will find snow around the town in winters.
