I had seen this movie once before, long ago, and suddenly I espied it at PlanetM. I bought it, because I remembered having enjoyed it so much.
Joe Pesci is Vincent Gambini, a sixth-attempt pass lawyer, who takes on the case of his cousin. The story goes that Vinnys cousin and his pal had stolen a small can of something from a store. After they drive out, someone kills the store owner. A police car stops them, and they say Yes, we did it, thinking that its about the theft.
Only after they finally confess do they understand that its for murder !! Panicking, they call Vinny. Vinny arrives in town with his automobile-expert-mechanic-girlfriend Mona Lisa Vito, played fantastically by Marisa Tomei, who won the best supporting actress role for this.
Now, the presiding judge wants a well dressed and experienced lawyer, which is everything that Vinny is not. He manages to irritate the judge every time, and even ends up in jail twice. But finally, the genius in Vinny awakens, and with the help of Miss Vito, he manages to pull off a fantastic victory.
Marisas depositions in the courtroom have to be seen to be believed. This girl has panache and class written all over her.
The plus points:
1) Joe Pesci - this amazing actor does full justice to the role of Vinny. His comic timing is par excellence.
2) Marisa Tomei - let us just say, she deserved the Oscar every bit.
3) Fantastic dialogues - be it in the courtroom, or in the jail where Vinny goes to meet his cousin, the scenes are hilarious, abetted by great dialogues.
Sample this:
Vinny goes to meet his cousin and his friend. his cousin is sleeping, and his friend has heard about gay guys who like to taste new prisoners. in walks Vinny, looking like a hoodlum, telling him that his a is on the line. The guy just flips. And then Vinny tells him See, either way, your a will be taken, its either me or them
Too good !!
4) The demolition of the witnesses is planned fantastically well. These scenes have to be seen and enjoyed fully.
All in all, this is one movie which will make you smile and forget your worries. Worth adding to a lifelong collection.
