There is no denying the fact that the world of bollywood has come to the pinnacle in terms of experiment. All sorts of experiment, ranging from horror to comedy, from underworld saga to murder mystery are being tried out by the filmmakers. But if there is one filmmaker, who is to be rightfully credited for making this possible, is Ram Gopal Verma. His factory is known to churn out new directors and daringly different subjects at times when the others seem to run out of steam. My Wifes Murder is no exception.
My Wifes Murder, as the name suggests, deals with the life of a man who accidentally kills his wife. But then that is just the begining. The man in question is Anil Kapoor and the wife is Suchitra Krishnamurthy. Suchitra plays the role of a nagging wife who suspects her husband Ravi Patwardhan (Anil kapoor) to have an affair with his secretary Reena, played by Nandana Sen. This results in regular confrontations between Ravi and his wife. And then comes one such confrontation in which Ravi accidentally kills her wife. Now begins the real journey of a man who knows that he will have to spend the rest of his life regretting the very moment his wife died, but thats a scene the he cant quite rewind.
The most important aspect about this film is that it makes you think. It makes you think about the helpless husband, about the situations that lead to the murder. The adventures are so efficiently executed that sometimes it becomes hard to digest that it has been directed by a first timer. The movie has the RGV kind of feel but it is Jijy Philip who gives a complete new look to the movie. The movie is dark, no doubt, but thats understandable.
Now lets come to the performances. Nandana Sen looks great and acts well. Suchitra Krishnamurthy is brilliant. Though she is there for the first fifteen minutes but the hang over of her performance remains till the end. Boman Irani is superb. The child artists play their roles with conviction. But the award goes to Anil Kapoor who has once again proved that he is the real lambi race ka ghoda. The expressions say it all. He gets in to the skin of the character and gives one of the most finest performances of his life and one that we have seen in recent times. He is trully a treat to watch.
On the whole, the movie is a treat for the lovers of realistic cinema. Just go and watch it!!!
