Among the various released movies, our family opted to go for ’’My Wife’s Murder’’, and after coming out of the multiplex, we found our decision correct. This movie is the best among the newly released movies ...Barsaat( Same Dharmesh Darshan Gana bajana type movie), Mangal Pandey( Viewrs have given the verdict about a sensitive issue which was dealt insensitively).
My wife’s murder is another innovative movie from RGV camp which gripps you till the end, and as it finishes you feel coming out of Ravi Patwardhan’s life, which is a true story happened in real life. Jijy Philips direction is the most remarkable thing of this movie.
It’s a tale of occupational pressure over marriage and hazards on non- symmetrical life parteners in the present situation of hectic life where ..... the wife is housewife and the husband is workoholic, burdened with workload. Wife has got enough time, watching serials like Saas Bahu soaps, getting mind poisoned, and enjoying fighting heated moments with tired husband returning in late night.
She suspects liason between her husband and his trainee, which causes routine quarrel and one day such routine quarrel ...without any violence...turns murderous..without any wish without any impulse....wife dies, and rest of part how the husband struggles between the sudden tragedy where he finds himself guilty morally as well as same time tries to protect himslef from haunting situations and police. This is a fight between morality and crime, while in actual he is innocent.
Quarrel is a common subject, but how a simple quarrel could become hell for lives is what you see here. This is the credit and capacity of a director who tells such s simply story with great mind and insight into the psychology of such situation...and I feel Ram gopal Varma tells all his directors to do study and research over behavioural science of characters and time. This maverick movie maker is distinguished from others in the manner that instead of character, he focuses over the situation and fucntioning, and this is the reason he gripps you.
We forget neither we care about such minute but critical developments of situations in our life which hijecks lives somehow inconspeciously. And My Wife’s Murder belong to such intelligent approach.
Regarding performances, everyone was perfect.
Anil Kapoor
After Amitabh Bachchan, if any other versatile and complete actor emerged, you get two names: Anil kapoor and Ajay Devgan, amd upto some extent Amir Khan. Anil kappor belongs to this same league of persona who are Star as well as actors. His days have gone long ago with age unlike AB, but he is still able to tell the viewer that...’’See what the service you are missing from the present generation stars!’’. Anyway Anil kapoor said that MWM has got his best performance but I don’t feel personally it’s his best. But yet it is something which today’s actors would learn from !
Commandable performance by Nandana Sen
Black shown a spark, but you watch her here and find that she is distingushed as a mature actor. The whole storty revolves around only 5-6 characters, like other actors she too was quite good. Specially her grasp over understanding the situation and being childishly compassionate to save her boss is very touching and remarkably done. her problem with Hindi comes out in dialogue delivery but her performance shadows that.
Bomans Irani is next generation paresh rawal... I tell you he is another intelligent actor who gets into skin, just with alike capabilities of Paresh Rawal. As a shrewd, cunning but compassionate police officer who loves outside food instead of boring meals of his wife, he is again excellent.
Rest of actors were well and had not that much role. Suchitra Krishnamurthy got monotonous venom mouthed role and that too was smartly small. She did good job.
Techies and Direction...no one can currently beat this RGV group in technical field. Background music was very much psychological and hitting. making you remeber the effects of Kaun. Editing too was crisp. Camera used usual shedding style of RGV movies. If the decrease the monochrome and increase adjust the hue balance a bit towards 56 it would be better.
There is again no songs breaking the continuity, and I thank them all for gradually turning the art of movie making to the place where they should be ...not wasting 3 hours with 1 hours of songs.
regarding direction...It really does not look that Jijy Philip has given his debut. He is outstanding. Director is the main hero, and when the story line is simple but psyche is complex, the movie demands intelligent...educated researcher kind of director who knows well about every minute details of situation. Jijy Philip is another successful student from RGV school.
But I have a complain from him regarding Anil Kapoor’s projection. It could be otherwise Anil kapoors inability too. It is that I felt sometimes that Anil kapoor never missed his wife, and never cried for him...instead he always looked escaping to save himself while feeling guilty...at least for a moment one loves even an enemy who lived and shared so many times with you?
Final Verdict favors this movie and puts it ahead of Mangal Pandey, dumb Barsaat etc. 2005 has met renaissance in bollywood where the quality viewers have got the place as well as quality halls in form of multiplexes and quality movies in form of Black, Page3, Swades, My Brother Nikhil, Parineeta, Sarkar, Viruddh, Seher, Matrububhumi with Pyar me Twist and Iqbal in the line of to be released, adding My Wife’s Murder.
Same time when I see these old mentally backward pure bhajiya kinda dierctors brigade who still hange with gana bajana latka jhatka like sunil darsha(barsaat)...or pseudo historians like Ketan mehta( Mangal Pandey)...aur funky chopras and Johars, , , , , , I feel they are taking last breaths of their carrier....Kaun inhe Samjhaye Public Samjhdaar Ho gayi hai...Directors gutsy ho chuke hain...aur taste sudhar gaya hai....
