I had always wanted to write something on mysore , but am I toooooo excited to write and the words doesn’t seem to fit in. ok let me start with transportation:
- Transporation:
a>It’s around 180 Kms from Bangalore
b>There is good convinience for buses and few trains like Tippu, passenger, push&pull, kaveri etc..But Mysore mallige the intercity buses plying between mysore and bangalore are at all the time and you will find the beautiful mysore mallige platform in the main K.S.R.T.C Bus
stand.
c>If you are wanna hire some taxi or other it’s better you beware of the nonsense prices.
d>If you have your private vehicle that’s well and good you can easily find the way ahead.
2.Accomodation:
a.One can find all the kinds of comfort in mysore. whether you are looking for deluxe hotels or dirt cheap lodges you have it all .
A word of caution:If you are going by bus or train , you will be surrounded with all these autowallas, brokers for lodges etc if you behave like you are stranger in town even if someone asks tell them you don’t need any help and you have been here earlier .There is nothing to fear just you may end up with what you don’t want at higher prices .
b.Have a list of all the hotels and lodges before you go and pre decide where you gonna stay .
c. There is Ramanashree comforts for the classy , if you want more you have lalith mahal , there are many other places like Hotel green , canes hotel , The roost etc..where you can stay .
3.Now something to eat and cherish:
There are all the kinds of restaurants and hotels for every taste , hotel green’s, parklane , roost, cane’s , kadur’s have great recipes .If you are looking for good old south indian style food in a place older than you, me and our parents there is das prakash. RRR for tasty andhra food(aha biriyani) and the list goes on . There are other places also like The Pinacle where you can enjoy gazhals having your drink (i don’t know whether they are still playing it or not).
4.Places in and around Mysore:
Here I think I will need an another page , to write ...
a>The palace at the centre of the city which looks amzing everytime you look at it. One shouldn’t miss the lightings of every sunday evenig they are the jewels to mysore city .
b>The museum near K.R Circle which is has good art and historical collections.
c>The Zoo, not everybody likes the zoo but it is good with all kinds of animals , kids will love this place like anything . Even if you don’t like the zoo you will have a great time pass for more than 3 hours , it’s a huge one.
d>The Chamundi hills, one of the great attractions of mysore it’s some 8-10 kms from the city and it’s simply great the mahishasura statue , the temple of chamundi the goddess of shakti. don’t miss the palace on the hill, it’s marvellous.
e> On you way down from chamundi take a deviation after a short distance which will lead you to the nandi statue, it’s ok.
f> Brindavan gardens, the hottest place near mysore around 10-15 kms from mysore this place has everything to cheer up one’s mood the dancing springs, great flowers, boating , the KRS dam , all for a dirt cheap ticket.
g> SriRangapattana, around 15 kms from mysore This places is full of temples and monuments , the samadhi of tippu , rangantha temple, nimishamba temple, museum etc..
h>Ranganathittu: around 15-20 kms from mysore , the road is bad.The bird sanctuary which hosts many diefferent species of birds , you can go boating though a little scary since you can see crocodiles around .
g> There are many other places but I can’t write all about it I will be mentioning briefly ..
Bandipura: Wildlife sanctuary , accomodation available
Balamuri : The cool great river kaveri’s scenery at it’s best there is also Edamuri, don’t miss the ganesha temple.
Karighatta: Nice scenery near srirangapatna
Thonnuru kere: Great pond , at a height near pandavpura.
Gopalaswamy betta: Near gundlupet nice hill station , with sri krishna temple.
