Mysore was the political capital of Wodeyar dynasty who ruled the state of Karnataka for around 150 years till the independence of the country from the British. The kings in this dynasty were great lovers of art. Mysore was the cultural capital of the south under the rule of Wodeyars.


The main event in Mysore is the ’’Dasara’’ event.


this event is a 10 day celebration in the month of Oct/Nov.


Mysore is the city of palaces, gardens, temples and avenues.


It also propagates carnatic classical music and dance.


Some very beautiful sites to watch are.


1) The Mysore Palace:


Once the residence of the wodeyars is one of the largest of its kind.Has an unmatched gardens.The golden royal elephant throne, the Durbar hall, the Kalyana Mantapa and the gallery are the main attractions here.


2) The Jagmohan Palace:


This is one of the beautiful art gallery.


Which has beautiful paintings of Raja Ravi Verma of Travancore and the Russian Painter Svetoslav Roerich are on display. Paintings in the traditional Mysore Golden leaf style are seen here.


3) Chamundi Hill:


It is on the top of hill a temple of ’’Chamundeshwari’’ 13 kms from Mysore by road.


There is also 1000 steps walking track for all the young ones.


The gigantic 4.8 mts monolith of ’’Nandi’’ the scared vehicle of Lord Shiva is a marvel to watch.


Also close to the temple stands the gigantic statue of the demon ’’Mahishasura’’.


4)St.Philomena’s Church :


One of the largest church in India.


5) The Mysore Zoo :


Country’s best zoo, famous for rare animal bred, and is housed in lush green surroundings.


6)Brindavan Gardens :


19km north from Mysore. Famous for KRS dam.Built by famous engineer Sir.M.Vishvesvariah.A multi purpose dam.


Adjacent to the dam is a beautiful ’’Brindavan garden’’.


With lighting and musical fountains. A wonderful site not to be missed.


The nearest airport to Mysore is Bangalore (139 kms).


Also it is connected by train from Bangalore.


The Shatabdi train is connected from Madras.


By road also Mysore can be reached from Bangalore.


It is 139 kms from Bangalore to the south.
