Neither N nor M !

I have been an Agatha Christie fan for as long as I can remember. I have read every one of her books and plays. Some memorable ones are Who Killed Roger Ackroyd and Ten Little Niggers. There have been other extremely enjoyable books like At Bertram’s Hotel and Destination Unknown. Wonderful thrillers and great reads. Agatha Christie has had a fairly unique record in that almost all her books under the murder/mystery/thriller genre have been very well received. She has failed only a few times. And N or M is one such failure. As a book, it leaves the reader cold. The tempo is excessively slow, the build up continues till the second last chapter of the book and the denouement is hardly a surprise.Tommy and Tuppense Beresford are extremely boring especially when you compare them to other Agatha Christie characters like Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot. I was sorely tempted to abandon the laborious reading half way through, but old habits die hard and I did stick it out till the last page. And what a chore! Anyway, If you havn’t read it, leave it well alone. You could try After the Funeral (very enjoyable) or Pale Horse (great, wholesale, black magic!!) or even Sad Cypress(if you like slightly brooding stuff) but not reading Nor M is no loss!!
