Credit should be given for choosing this title, as this means both Coin and Integrity.
Plot:
Prasanna is a Electronics Engineer with a life ambition of running his own business.He happens to save the life of SPB once and as a token of gratitude, SPB offers Prasanna a job in his own bank with a promise of sanctioning him a loan later, to start his own business. Soon, Prasanna develops a fool-proof security system which is approved by the board of directors of the bank and the same gets implemented. The bank, now, is advertised as the World’s safest bank. But SPB is not ready to relieve Prasanna or sanction him the loan, because he feels that Prasanna would be more successful if the sytem is implemented in 3-4 more branches.
In walks Ramya Raj as a journalist and Prasanna falls in love at first sight and is keen to marry her, even though Ramya claims herself to be a divorcee. Soon, Prasanna gets into a fight with Ramya’s ex-husband during their date. The next day, he finds Sibiraj at his apartment blackmailing him with photos of Prasanna fighting with Ramya’s ex-husband and the deadbody of Ramya’s ex-husband in Prasanna’s car dickey. Prasanna has to fulfill Sibiraj’s demands to get out of the problem. Sibiraj’s aim is to get SPB into trouble by looting the so-called "safest bank" by blackmailing Prasanna on the murder case. Will Prasanna be able to crack the fool-proof security system designed by himself ? Does Sibi succeed ? forms the rest of the movie.
As per reports, this movie seems to be inspired from "The bank job". The Cast performance of the movie is perfect, as everybody there have done their job well. Sibiraj excels in his role and he just resembles his dad, Sathyaraj, in his character as a "cool" villain. Prasanna, SPB, Ramya Raj and Yasmin khan have all done well. Music by James Vasanthan is good. His "kangal irandal" fame work is repeated in this movie with the melody song "Naan Pogiren ". Other songs are ok. Background music by Thaman rocks . It is his own area and he has done very well. Over the past, through Eeram & Sindhanai Sei, and now with Naanayam, he has proved to be the best in Industry for composing music for thriller subjects.
Cinematography, Picturization, Camera works, Editing work are all fantastic , giving the audience an edge-of-seat thriller.
But, it is the script that needs to be appreciated , though it seems to be a copy of a Hollywood movie. The second half is full of several twists and turns and thrills , a few of which , however, are predictable.
The direction is good enough to keep you thinking who is bad and who is good and at any given point, as an audience, you are suspicious on every character, as to who is double-crossing whom.
If at all, there is anything to be improved, the movie could have been elaborated a little more filling gaps in the minds of audience. The length is around 130-140 minutes.
Overall, Naanayam is an excellent suspense thriller movie with a strong subject of bank robbery backed by good background music and cast performance. ( Guess, a few banks are already thinking of implementing this security system as that really is very very impressive..!! )
To watch out for:
In the second half, Ramya Raj , enters into a secret tunnel, with infra red rays passing from left and right. The way she passes through the gap in rays, in form of a martial arts-kind-of-dance and reaches the vault is excellent.
Don’t miss this movie. It’s worth watching.
