Naaptol, jhoot mat bol!

I had placed an order for Sigmatel 6100 Dual Sim mobile with Naaptol.com in response to an advertisement given in DNA, Jaipur and on their website. Subsequently I spoke to their customer care department twice, and specifically asked if GPRS, WAP was available in this set. They said yes, also it was mentioned clearly in the ad, and also on their website.


This is the excerpt of the matter given on Naaptol website about Sigmatel 6100:


“This phone comes with a list of multimedia features as 1.3 MP camera, MP3 Player, Bluetooth, WAP, GPRS, TFT display, Fm Radio, Magic Voice and shake function….” The same was mentioned in the paper ad and the same was also confirmed by their customer service department.


I subsequently received the set by courier against ORDER NO.134182 on 6th Jan, 2010 and paid Rs3200 cash for the same.


When I tried to use the set I was surprised to find that:


I could not get any Vodafone Services activated as this phone did not have necessary provisions.


There were no GPRS or WAP services. In fact there were no menus only for GPRS and WAP.


As a result THIS PHONE IS OF NO USE FOR ME as I had specifically wanted the GPRS and more so because Vodafone services cannot be activated from this handset.


This is a clear case of fraudulent transaction as the company is also not following the regulations of RTI Act 2005. Also I have seen umpteen complaints about naptol. This is not new for them. In fact, even till today I have not got a reply from them.


I have made a request for a replacement of the phone with another phone which has the GPRS and WAP facility or some other product of same value.


Their Replacement Policy states


“The request for exchange of the product shall be done within 10 days of receipt of the items. There are no extra shipping charges for the delivery of replacement product incurred to you. Product will be replaced within the warranty period only."


I have lastly stated the following at the end of the letter:


“Kindly send your representative to arrange PICKUP service, from my address and send me the replacement at the earliest. Hope my request will be entertained and necessary action will be taken immediately, so that this case doesn’t drag further.”


Their response is still awaited.
