Nadiya ke Paar is an exceptional movie. It can be categorised under the great classics of Hindi Cinema. It revolves around a love story between two young persons divided by a river.
A farmer somewhere in UP lives with his two sons.He falls ill and is treated by a Vaidya who comes from another village. When the farmer feels okay, he asks the Vaidya for his fees.In return, Vaidya asks for his son as his son-in-law to which farmer readily agrees.Farmer eldest son Omkar(played by Inder Thakur) marries Vaidya s elder daughter Roopa and they start living happily.Roopa gives birth to a baby.During Roopas pregnancy, Roopas younger sister Gunja(Sadhana Singh) comes to live with her and falls in love with Roopas brother-in-law Chandan(Sachin).Roopa comes to know of this and assures them that she will get them married, but she dies in an acccident soon and nobody else knows about their affair.Their parents mutually decide to get Gunja married off to Omkar so that she can brought up her sisters baby , but somehow the affair is leaked at last moment and everything is resolved and Chandan marries Gunja ultimately with everybody s consent.
The story is short and simple.Uttar Pradeshs village culture and dialect is shown in this movie as it is without any alteration.
Songs are just superb.Every song was a hit from"kaun disa mein le ke chala re batohiya..." to Jogi ji......" , a popular holi song .
Acting by Sachin, Sadhana Singh , Sheela David, Leela Mishra and other actors is just great. They look like real characters.Direction is flawless.
Inder Thakur who plays the role of Omkar was on the passenger list of Kanishka air crash years back, but he will always be remembered for his role in Nadiya ke paar.Sadhana Singh married in the Royal family of Varanasi after this movies mega hit made a come back in popular TV serialJassi Jaisi koi nahin"recently as Raghavs mother.
This movie ran houseful for years in a movie theatre in Allahabad.
A very popular movie sometime back called "Hum aapke hain Kaun" starring Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit is a gawdy remake of this great movie.Even the title is taken from a dialogue in this movie when Sachin asks SadhanaHum aapke hain Kaun?!"
Thanks for reading my review.
