When I saw the list of Hill- stations here I felt a bit pity. I feel that places to travel in India is much much more than any place barring NewZealand and South America, and here on MS you get handful of names only!
Since you have not got the option to put a topic of yourself I have to write about Kausani( not Kasauli!). Mahatma Gandhi had come to this place for relaxation and he termed Kausani as ’’ Switzerland of India ’’ and believe me, his words are exactly correct. .
I would say that Kosani and the route towards it are breathtakingly beautiful and among best ever seen.
It is pity on the part of Tourism Development of India that it has promoted only those regions of India which were already prominent during Raj period.
But it has a plus point which is major...that it spares the sancity of the place from the indesciplined Indian Tourists who are able to turn a Heaven into Hell! And believe me after getting out of Kausani I prayed to God that please keep this place as it is and don’t get it easily accessible to the tourists. Any real tourist who is really researching kind of will end up landing this place someday!
Kausani falls at the border of Kumaun and Garhwal, predominantly in Kumaun region. It is in Uttrakhand, North of Nainital and Almora and north east of famous Ranikhet.
Beauty Description:
Once you start going uphill from Nainital, the level of wildness increases and it increases exponentially with better heights, dancing giggling rivers and condition arises where if you look to left or right you see khais whose base you can’t see and then you enter into clouds. The breath inside cloud making you moist and your nostrils feeling fresh! Sametiem you see rare wild flowers which are better than roses!
Both..Fauna and Flora are highly rich and diverse. This sceen stays till you enter and leave Almora. While once it is left you start feeling that you are now cut-off from population. Scarce population of high altitude but heavy population of natural sceens and beauty.
Peoples purchase German and Swiss grass and it’s their ignorance that makes profit for the sellers, The pastures here are exactly same with more flourescence instead. Also this region has lots of falls small falls which are surrounded by multi color flowers and pastures.
The river flowing has no one to pollute it so the river is also nice to you. you can see single tiniest crystal with your naked eyes at the bottom of the river and can drink the raw water. If you wish do fishing. But if you want to take bath I think it is tough if the sun is not full.
Usually the day is sunny but in very peculiar mode, that it does not really looks so. From Kausani you can watch the great himalayas in covered well with snow.
Three ranges of Trishul and Nanga ranges are excellently visible beyond which nothing else looks. The whole area smells with a very refreshing fragrance of flowers. You can do the Kosi river fall trekking and the whole area is very beautyful and full of mystic.
Don’t go there in evening as Panthers, Beers come down. Good caves are there and relish the bath in fall as well as river( Don’t stand inside alone, the current is fast and rocky). Visit Gandhi Ashram and locals.
Nearby places:
Someshwar( Great ancient temple), Baijnath( Ancient temple made BC, only of stones using masala of urad ki daalas the cement) . The futher beauty lay with the sceen that it is surrounded by the moutaine river and lots of wild flowers. Patal Bhubaneshawr: Under ground caves and paintings. It is said Pandavs stayed here and did the paintings. The caves are deep below the earth and this is why it’s name.
Pindari Glaciers:
For trekking and Glaciers. Go only if you are a good trecker as this regin falles in medium to tough level trekking and takes 7 days.
The kind of vegetation is big plus point with rhodedendrons coming at the prime place. This place is covered with snow fromk November to February and I recommend it to visit anytime. Rainy seasons are also very beautyful but then that season is very highly adventurous peoples.
Medicinal significance: The atmosphere of Kosani has been valued and prescribed for patients of Asthma and TB.
Route: I prefer Almora route instead of Ranikhet. Both are good though. But Almora’s route is very adventurous and wild, while Ranikhet one is Romantic one.
A Request: Please Please Please...if you visit there kindly don’t spoil the place and pollute it as the people do cruely to other tourist places. It’s purity is well maintained. Please behave like a responsible tourist there. Keep it untouched from the every speck of dirt.
