Nainital - Perfect place

We took a trip to Nainital, a popular tourist destination in Uttar Pradesh. The town strives to provide its tourists with all kinds of conveniences and amenities needed to make their visit memorable.

Nainital is nestled in the Kumaon hills of Uttar Pradesh. We started our tour from where else, but the famous Naini Lake.

The centre of the Naini Lake is the deepest - 110 feet or you can say as deep as putting 10 elephants, one above the other! One can go from one end of the lake to the other in only 40 minutes, for a sum of 80 rupees. And within those 40 minutes, it seemed as though the sun was playing hide-and-seek with us behind the clouds.

With the mist so dense, it seemed as though the clouds themselves had descended on the earth!

The boatman told us, that the fashion in Mumbai and the weather in Nainital are very unpredictable - you never know when it can change. Sometimes in June, they have hail storms!

Located alongside the lake, was the Tibetan market, which I found worth checking out.

There are lots of these hotels and restaurants located on the other side of the Mall road. If you wish to stay here, don’t expect a whole lot - be prepared to get only just the basic amenities, despite paying a lot of money.

A double room in an absolutely simple, basic hotel may cost you up to around 3500 rupees, if the room provides a view of the lake! What’s more, this tariff doubles, even triples itself in summer, when the schools close down for holidays. Next on our agenda, was Snow View, from where one can see all of Nainital.

A one-hour trip by cable car costs 50 rupees per head. You can either walk for 2 and a half-hours, or take a 5 minute journey by cable car. Lots for tourists do just that over there.

If you don’t fancy crowds all that much, do what I did - head out a little from the town. There’s China Peak, about 5 kilometres away, or Dorothy’s Seat, about 4 kilometres away from the main town. You can take a walk, a drive, or even head out on skates, like some people actually do!
