Nadan Kana, the biggest of Aisa, is located at 25 kilometers from Bhubaneswar, the state capital of Odisha. It is well known in the world and everyday thousands of visitors from the country as well as abroad visit it. It is a wonderful zoo with a variety of animals, birds and reptiles preserved in it.
1) Animals: It has wild animals like bears, tigers and lions cordoned from visitors, can be viewed from a very close distance though. In addition, it has dears, rabbits and other animals too. The chimpanzees too attract the viewers a lot. There are different kinds of monkeys available which have been left to move freely in the zoo.
2) There are large varieties of birds preserved in this zoo out of which the American parrot attracts the visitors a lot.
3) Reptiles: There are many snakes in this zoo. However, their number has been reduced significantly after the severe super cyclone in 1999 killed a lot from them. Crocodiles are there in a good number which are preserved at artificial lakes created within the zoo. Different types of lizards are there too.
4) Safari trip: The zoo administration organizes a safari trip by a bus for visitors which takes the visitors into the prohibited areas where the wild tigers and lions are kept to move freely. The bus takes a trip of around 20 to 25 minutes which takes the visitors very close to these wild animals, the visitors are not allowed to move out of the bus though.
5) Rope Way: There is a rope way running from the zoo to a botanical garden across a small lake on the other side of it. It is an amazing experience and at the same time, it makes the visitors to enjoy the botanical garden wherein there are numerous rare plants available.
Within the zoo, one has to walk only and it may take around three to four hours to make a complete trip across the zoo. I recommend everyone to visit it at least once and the most convenient period to visit here is the spring or winter season. There are also different stalls available to have a soft drink, coffee or some snacks while making the tour.
