Napster is one of those productes that has taken the world by storm, but has managed to land itself in a soup simply because it revolutionised music!
Sharing music among music lovers has always been a pleasure. Along came computers, then came the net and someone decided to compress music to mp3s.
Music lovers put 2 and 2 together and Shawn lent a helping hand (thanx to some great little grey cells and a huge grant) and Napster was born.
This fairy tale should have had a happy ending but then like all fairy tales there was a twist. Unfortunately this twist seems to be headed for a bad finish.
So much for my imagination!
Getting to the software, I have stopped using napster because Ive been facing more and more problems with their software.
Here are their good points:
Its unbelievably simple to use. Even a child can use it.
It is THE most extensive source for any song. If someone sang it and bothered to make a record out of it....youll find in napster.
Its free!!
There are a few things that make this software a little pain though.
Download is not resume supported. Everytime I use napster, I pray the connection doesnt get cut. Also download speeds are not ideal but thats probably because I have a bad connection.
Lately Ive been getting plenty of transfer errors. In fact for the past 3 weeks, I havent been able to download a single song!!
Apparently versions beyond version 7.0 were creating problems.
Also the napster internal player is not really good. Use winamp as the player to play songs.
Now that Ive run into problems with napster and napster has run into problems with the law, I would not recommened you use napster in its present. But that does not mean you let the software down!!
If youve enjoyed its benefits make sure you talk out and let napster and the world know that you like it.
I think that as long as I use the mp3s for personal use and not for anything commercial its OK. Napster is not the only thing that you need for mp3s. Whatabout the other software? What about mp3 playes, CD rippers, CD recorders, etc that are the actual culprits in spreading illegal mp3s? why not clamp down on them?
And dont tell me youve never taped a CD which you didnt buy.
Think about it. And in the meantime, look for alternatives to napster to quench your mp3 thirst and keep your fingers crossed!!!
