Alright, I just had to give my review of this movie. I saw this movie about a week and half ago but didnt really get the time to write a detailed review about this, so now Im writing it.
Lets just say that I was very disappointed with how this movie turned out. I had high expectations for this considering that Abbas Mustan were bringing their Humraaz heroes in a movie after 5 years. I mean who wouldnt be excited to see this team back together onscreen. Humraaz was a pretty decent movie which had good performances, good music, and the unique trademark Abbas Mustan style of direction when it came to thrillers.
Anyways, the point is that I finally saw Naqaab and I was really disappointed with what I saw. First and first foremost, how can you call this movie "The most shocking thriller of the year?" This movie was hardly a thriller in my opinion. It was a mystery with a light hearted backdrop added onto it. This is not a thriller- movies like Gupt, Baazigar, Daraar, and Humraaz are credible enough to be called thrillers.Wheres the haunting background music? Wheres the chilling feeling running down your shoulder? None of that was present.
Its true that Naqaab had twists, but they didnt really excite me and they were certainly dumb twists. I wasnt shocked, as the makers had said I would be(referring to the slogan line in the promos).
As far as the storyline goes, you should go up to IMDB and read up a movie called- Dot the I. Naqaab is a lift off of that movie. Im not going to going into details explaining the story because its not worth taking a long time to explain as its so stupid.
*Performances
Akshaye Khanna-** I thought he did a good job with whatever he was given, but its a pity to see him getting bad movies as hes such a terrific actor. I was really hoping that this movie would do him some good, as I was expecting better from this movie before watching it. Unfortunately it didnt turn out that way. I wish him all the best with Gandhi my Father- hope that works out for him.
Bobby Deol- he was okay, he was a bit funny in parts of the second half, but his performance was not that good. It my opinion, it reminded me of an extension of his character in Shakalaka Boom Boom. He really didnt get much scope, and this is a letdown compared to what he had gotten in Humraaz.
Urvashi Sharma- she did a decent job for her first movie. Some scenes, she wasnt convincing, but Ill give her benefit of the doubt as it was her first movie.
Vikas Kalantri and Vishal Malhotra- okay. Nothing special.
Raj Zutsi- wasted
The music by pritam is decent, but the way the songs have been picturized are not up to expectations. To see a song like Ek Din in the context given of the story was just lame sorry, but no woman lets a stranger just dance away like that. Its not realistic LOL.Aa Dil Se Mila had a lame picturization too, and Aye Dil was pretty bad considering that the choreographer did a bad job and assigned some lame dance steps to the cast.
Overall Abbas Mustan are just losing it and this movie is just plan forgettable. The Humraaz magic is not recreated.
I dont know if others noticed but I thought the sets looked so tacky for this movie. Visually the movie looked so bland and dull, no colors nothing. It looked like a cloudy setting.
