Customer Beware of Narayana HrudayalaDental Clinic

Both my husband and myself are medical doctors, and we will never go to a Narayana Hrudayalaya Dental Clinic again now that we have used their services once. These people are ripping off unsuspecting patients with obscene pricing using a reputed name. I went to the clinic in Koramangala for treatment and found that their pricing is more than double the charges in other premium dental clinics. In addition, a preventive procedure for preventing caries/cavities in a child, which normally costs anywhere between Rs 200-600, cost Rs 2500 at Narayana Hrudayalaya Dental Clinic. When I asked about the pricing, I was told it was a premium service provider(although all their equipment is way less than premium and probably China-made) so they were justified in charging high amounts and charging same amount for preventing potential tooth decay(Rs 500 per tooth for putting a plastic glue on top of the tooth) as for treating tooth decay(Rs 500 per tooth for treating and filling a cavity). Calls to customer care were ineffective because they could not understand the problem as they were "nontechnical personnel", but could give me a 10% discount on the bill; I told them to keep the discount as my issue was with the incorrect pricing of essential treatment, which was not cosmetic or aesthetic.

Let’s take a step back and look at pricing here: life-preserving/saving treatment such as dialysis costs between Rs 800-1250 in India; many kidney patients find it difficult to pay this much to just stay alive; tooth cavity filling for adults in this dental clinic costs rs 800 per tooth; filling a child’s teeth costs Rs 500 and putting a plastic sealant on top of a healthy tooth costs rs 500 for a child and Rs 750 for an adult. The lack of regulation in pricing of medical care and services in India allows cheats to take consumers for a ride. Dr Devi Shetty should be more concerned about the types of activities to which he lends the name of a hospital known for providing life-saving care and compassion.
