When it comes to naseeruddin shah, actors like amitabh bachnan couldn’t be compared to him, only match to him are likes of om puri, amrish puri, paresh rawal etc. I see nobody has ever written a review on him, but I see 80 review on shahrukh khan.
Naseerudin shaH was born on july 20 1950. He has had success in main bollywood movies and in art movie as well. Naseruddin shah had wanted to act from his childhood , he graduated from the national school for drama in 1973 and enrolled in the film and television institute of inda in 1973. HIs first film was called nishant an art film which had amrish puri, samita patil and shabana azmi and the movie was directed by shyam benegal the guy who directed the movie zubeida with karishma kapoor in it.
Then along the way came movies like manthan, bhumika in which his performances were recognized. He has starred most with actresses like shabana azmi, samita patil and om puri. He had gotten a national award for his performance in the the art film called sparsh in which he plays a blind man. One of his most intense performances was in the movie albert pinto ko gussa kiyon aata hai in the movie he is a car mechanic from goa who dreams of the expensive cars that he repairs, but he is just a average man who can’t afford them .
He got his first filmfare award for best actor in the movie aakrosh, in which he plays a lawyer fighting a case for on puri, who stays silent in the whole movie. The movie was well made by govinda nehlani who was last seen directing the movie dev starring amitabh. Then on the way he has starred in the movie chakra which got him his second filmfare award. MOvies like khwab, bhumika, junoon, shaayad, godhuli, were all art movies and hits.
Then he also did comedy movies like jaane bhi do yaaron, which is considered one the best comedies in bollywood, the movie was too funny which starred nasurdin, ravibaswani, pankaj kapoor, satish shah, satish kaushik om puri, all gave wonderfull performances the ending was the most funniest part. The movie had funny dialogues like switzerland ka cake lagta hai aacha cake hai thoda thoda khayo thoda thoda phenko bahut mazaa ayega. One particular movie of him I liked is sazaye maut in the movie he caught by the police for the murder he didn’t commit.
On the way came superhit umrao jaan with rekha and drama movies like tajurba, bazaar, dil aakhir dil hai and pyara dost went average at the box office. He has starred in the movie mohan joshi hazir ho which was pretty funny. J.p dutta directed the movie gulami in which dharmendra, mithun had lead roles and naseruddin shah played the policeofficer who is after them. Then he was award his second national award for the film paar and got his third filmfare award for the movie masoom, which was a huge hit in the 80’s.
He has also starred in action movies like karma and stole the show away from everyone including dilip kumar and starred in movies like jalwa and hero hiralal. Then he has starred in a suspense movie called khoj starring rishi kapoor the movie was very similar to the movie my wife murder in which naseruddin shah plays the police officer. In the movie tridev he also gives a good performance and his song tirchi topi wale was a hig hit.
Like all actors he has also starred in some worst movies like crore, swami dada directed by dev anand, hasti and game were all garbage movies. Vishwatma was released in 1992 and was a hit, due the performances and the hit item number by diivvya bharti sat samunder par.
Here comes my favorite performances of him in the movie sir, directed by mahesh bhatt he acted too good along with paresh rawal who was villain and the music of the movie was pretty good, song like sun sun sun barsat ki dhun sun by kumar sanu was nice. He was also in the darmesh darshan movie lootere, in the movie he plays a guy name sikander and steals the show in his 30 minute role. I liked him in the movie kaabhi haan kaabhi naa along along with srk, he played a priest in the film and supported him throughout the film. Then he starred with om puri in the film drohkal which was hit movie with the same director govinda nehlani who is famous for making art movies.
Then he went onto do some villain roles in movies like mohra, takkar, chahat, raj kumar and sarfarosh all were great and he proved there isn’t noone like him. He always starred with different directors he was also in rajkumar santoshi’s chinagate the movie which should have been a hit, the movie had among the greatest actor in bollywood amrish puri, danny, and ompuri, paresh rawal only anupam kher was missing. I liked him the movie teen deewarein he gives a natural performance. He was last seen in the movie iqbal and maqbool, but his fortcoming movies are homedelivery, krish.
He was original choice for playing gandhi in the 1984 film gandhi, but had some problems with the director. He has also been giving performances with his theatre group at places like delhi, mumbai and bangalore and he has directed many plays. He has also been in hollywood the movie called league of an extraordinary gentleman with sean connery, he played the role of captain nemo.
