As other fellow travelers say, Chikmagalur town is not the right place if you are expecting a serene/scenic getaway. The climate in Chikmagalur is same as in Bangalore.
From Bangalore, one can reach Chikmagalur by train from Kadur or Birur which are the nearest railheads to Chikmagalur. From Kadur, it takes about an 1 hour to reach Chikmagalur. The road is very bad, but the scenic journey soothes you to some extent. The great thing about Chikmagalur area is that the surrounding hills are un-explored and un-spoilt.
You can stay in Nature Nirvana homestay which is located in the BababudanGiri range of hills in a scenic location amidst Coffee plantations. Mullayangiri and BabaBudan Giri are a must visiting hills. Even in peak summer, these hills are cool with lot of greenery/vegetation in the hills. If you reach the peak of the BB Hills, you will be in the clouds and thats an amazing experience. You will that you are in a dreams. You can buy Coffee from Chikmagalur.
I stayed in Nature Craft home stay run by Mr. Ansar and his family. The family is good , but the house is located adjacent to the main road, which I dont like. It was a bit disturbing. And also, the food quality has to be improved and it needs to be served in the rooms rather than in a common hall. However, the fresh fruit juice made from the ""Passion Fruit"" is a big positive factor here. I personally liked Mr.Ansars excellent hospitality.
Visit to Mullayangiri and BB Hills in one day and a day for Kemmangundi if you feel. Mylemoney Tata Coffee estate is the place where you will get the highest grade Quality Coffee in the entire Asia.
