I’m writing this post solely to warn others of the unethical activities of Naukri.com.
I am located in the UK. On 23 September I received a call from Prathiba Khanna from Naukri.com in India (I found this impressive as only a couple of days earlier I had updated my CV to target the Indian job market). For over 10 minutes she explained a couple of deals to me - one which makes my CV available to Indian recruiters, and another in which my CV is forwarded to consultants(all the while she avoided any mention of the cost involved, and when I asked, her responses were diversionary). Ultimately she explained that the ‘resume fast forward’ service costs $195, but my CV had been shortlisted and so it would cost me only $90 (her manner already sounded suspect, but since I had previously found employment through Naukri.com, I was inclined to trust them).
She then put me through to her senior Ankit, who explained the same thing in less detail, and asked for some of my card details (bank name, etc.) to check if it can be used for payments. He confirmed that it could be used, and without my permission, decided to put me through to the payments team. I told him that was unprofessional (I didn’t feel like using the word charlatanism then), but there wasn’t so much as a hint of an apology from his side. After some talking, I told him I needed time to think, and asked him to call back. With much hesitation, he agreed (while telling me that this offer was valid only for the day). I made some calls and checked with my friends in India, and found out that one had taken the same service a week earlier for INR 3, 500. It was clear that this was an act of trickery, centred on playing on the biases of jobseekers competing in a tough market.
Im glad I let my reason prevail over sentiment.
