The movie Nayak which successfully shown the fantasy of every common man to become the Chief Minister or Prime Minister of their state one day and dispel all the problems faced by him in his daily life.
This movie is all about a Sidha-sadha , Dashing Reporter of a TV channel (Played by Anil Kapoor) who gets challeneged by the cunning Chief Minister of the state (Played by Amrish Puri) to take over The CM’s chair for a day. The reason for such challenge is the same as repeated by all the Neta logs over the empty cries of Media without any constructive effort on their part to come forward and clean up the system. And while this is happening live on the TV channel, there is one person who is watching this very carefully with his witty comments, the Principal Secretary of the CM of the State ! (Played by Paresh Rawal)...The mentor of the successful leader arises on the scene !
Taking up the challenge : Anil Kapoor takes up the challenge to be the Chief Minister of the state for one day and the drama begins to unfold. The CM goes on cleaning up the fraudulent and corrupt system by sacking the ’’tainted’’ staff of Government. This is done by personally nabbing the scamsters on ration shop, zopadpatti ki building as well as with the help of CM helpline.
He also goes on arresting the Ministers in the earlier CM’s (Amrish Puri’s) ministry, also arrests the earlier CM !!!! Mann...he is asking for trouble...But similarly...he is now the Janta’s Hero...To be Precise...He is becming Nayak of Janata !
The challenge got just bigger ! The one day is over successfully. The crucade CM takes over again and sends people to finish the Nayak in the night only....But he rises above the threat.
The Rajya-bhishek of Nayak The mud-clad Nayak arises to general public and nobody discovers him till he cleans his face.... But as soon as his identity is revealed, the mud is now washed away by the pure milk...Ur king is now the throned. This is typically related to the Rajya-bhishek ceremony carried out in ancient time for our kings.
The elections are fast approaching , the Janata wants their Nayak to stand for the elections and carry out the noble work done by him...But the Nayak is craving for the IAS position, 8 hours sleep a day and peaceful life with family. Doesn’t match with the aspirations of the public for him...

Paresh Rawal who is otherwise the Secretary to CM is the one who is part of the corrupt system. But he is a odd part who wants to fight the system, but can do little since he is too little to change the system. His thoughts are fiery, his thinks redical... the mentor goes to the Nayak to convince to take the elections. But the nayak is still craving for his peaceful life...The mentor explodes..
’’Mahatma Gandhi agar apni biwi aur bachche ke saath ghar bethe hote to hum aaj bhi angrezo ki latrine saaf karte hote.’’
A strong brain-washing of the Nayak makes way for the ..... Nayak as well as the Mentor to the Nayak !
Rest of the story is similar to what u see in any Hindi movie like Nayak’s Nayika (Played by Rani mukerejee), the villain attacks Nayak’s Parents and kills them and the Nayak’s takes his revenge....
I think that this movie conveys a strong message that the corrupt system that we always cry about can be changed if u have a will-power as well as proper direction to change it to good
Evaluation as a movie : Anil Kapoor delivers one of the strong performances, Amrish Puri suits to be the Crucade Politician, Rani fits the role. The masterpiece performance is once again delivered by Paresh Rawal.
Director Shankar has conceptualised some wonderful moments like the Rajya-bhishek, the disabled person asking anil kapoor to become the CM...He scored on these scenes.
The songs carry typical south mark and are neatly done !
