Nice, but don't count on remembering the songs

Nayak - The Real Hero

Music: A R Rahman

Lyrics: Anand Bakshi

Song list

Chalo Chale Mitwa

Singer : Udit Narayan & Kavita Subramaniam

This song is a classical village type song and has a lot of parallels with the music in Lagaan, although falls short from that caliber. I found some similarities between this song and ’’O ri chori’’ although it is not too apparent. The vocals of the song are sweet to listen to and the entire song is composed on classics instrumentals. The background score is very soothing and enticing, however this song is not very memorable. The lyrics are also beautiful. I think this song will find more acceptance with the older generation, although the younger generation will like it as well, I don’t think they will remember it.

As in O ri chori, I think this song will be enjoyed with visuals.

Shakalaka Baby

Singer : Vasundara Das, Shiraz Uppa & Pravin Mani

This song is a modern(Although seems like a fusion of 80’s and 90’s music) although the background score is catchy as is the chorus(No, No, No). The lyrics are very mediocre , the main lyric , ’’Shakalaka baby ’’ is pretty nonsensical :D. Yet the music , sound effects used throughout the track make for a good listen, but the lyrics could be considered separable. The visuals of this song are awesome and looks ultra modern, however the song itself finds parity with early 90’s english music.

Ruki Sukhi Roti

Singer : Shankar Mahadevan & Alka Yagnik

Once again the music is very enticing, the vocals are good, the lyrics are a lot of fun, but also once again this song is not very memorable. The music itself ranges from mediocre to good, however I did at times notice the background beat seemed inappropriate. All in all I don’t think this song will be remembered.

Saiyyan

Singer : Sunidhi Chauhan & Hans Raj Hans

I loved the beginning vocals fused with the music, the vocals are very lovely to listen to. The male vocals in particular are the highlights of this song and when the voices doubles it sounds nice. The background score is very appropriate for the song and entices a lot, its all classical instrumentals.

However as has happened in most songs, the lyrics are a let down and will not be remembered, they are also too repetitive. The chorus as well as the male vocals are the highlight here.

Chidiya Tu Hoti To

Singer : Abhijeet & Sanjeevani

The opening of this track is very nice, with the flute and then fused with a slight modern beat. The lyrics are very beautiful, however the vocals and songs do not seem to be inspired by Hindi, it seems like the inspiration is from the south. There is a slight Irish touch in one part of the song, but it sounds soothing and appropriate. The whole music throughout is very enticing and the music effects have been used very appropriately. I think this music will be considered unorthodox for the mainstream Hindi market. However on the whole, this music is very soothing and I may just remember it        :D

Tu Achcha Lagta Hai

Singer : Hariharan & Kavita Subramaniam

The music is once again enticing, but the lyrics are too repetitive at the beginning. There are a lot of different singers used in this track and once again its inspiration seems to be derived from the south. The music is very beautiful and the sound effects add to its beauty, it seems that this song would be enjoyed with visuals. However on the whole im not too overstruck with this song and I don’t think others will be too.

Chalo Chale Purva

Singer : Udit Narayan & Kavita Subramaniam

This song is beautiful, It’s a another version of , ’’Chalo Chale Mitwa’’ but is more toned down and sad, unfortunately it finishes too soon (1 min?) :)

I will not rate this

Overall Rating (without visuals) 7.9/10 or 79%

Overall projected rating (with visuals) 8.9/10 or 89%

Conclusion:

Most of the songs are sweet and the music is very soothing, but perhaps some are too sweet. I think this album is overly classical and seems to have a southern flavour, hence it may not find too much acceptance with the mainstream Hindi population. Shakalaka baby seems completely out of place on this album, I think its just another Sushmita sen item number. On the whole the music of Nayak is not memorable(especially to a younger generation) but when viewed in the film, im sure there will be no complaints.
