On 7th December, 2009, NDTV Imagine has launched its New TV Show based on the technique of Past Life Regression.
The basic presumption to accept the Theme is: There is a Soul and it takes Re-birth. The Concept for Indian Psyche is ancient, as it was narrated to Arjuna by Lord Kirshna("You and I had so many previous births and will have in future also, you do not remember, and I remember.The Bhagwad Gita.in the same text the concept of’Atman’ has been explained and it is the Core Belief of Hindu Thought.).
In the West, the issue was explored and well-researched by Parapsychologists and there are loads of books based on such research. One such Book "20 cases suggestive of Re-incarnation’ became quite famous. A decade or earlier I read a book about "Past Life Regression Therapy technique" and it endorsed in a way the hypnotic and suggestive technique of taking a subject back into past life.
The Present TV Show is a TV response much on the lines of Reality TV Show content format and is very promising. While its Entertainment value is debatable, its direct approach, considering the Indian audience, can get tremendously wild issue for TV debate.
Due to its serious technique, the show has been well augmented with suggestive visuals and trendy music. The approach of Doctor who commands and accompanies the Medium into the Past Life, with due tonal and emotively expressive quality is a plus point. The journey of the Medium itself seems quite convincing. The only thing which seems lacking is the Post-research work based on the revelation of a medium which can solidly promote the Programme.
The latest show on Shekhar Suman is full of emotive value but the audience is left half-way in between when there is no attempt by the Host Ravikishan, to further examine the revelations of Shekhar Suman. While the Doctor picks up a lead on a core issue like’an inbuilt natural fear’ in a human being for which there is no apparent reason, or the connections and questions which preplex the mind of individuals in their personal private lives.
I believe the Show can become more Living, Alive and Meaningful, if to every episode telecast, there is a supplementary episode verifying, confirming or denying the correctness of the medium’s revelations.
The Show itself holds a challenge, it is a unique theme to be examined on TV and of course it can get even more interesting and crowd puller than’Magic Show of Great P.C.Sorcar’. The show invokes your curiousity and invites one to examine the eternal questions of Philosophy: Is there a God? Is there is Soul? Is there a Rebirth?
We have enjoyed the concept of Reincarnation and supernatural in various Master pieces of Hindi Cinema, like Madhumati, Karz(Reincarnation of Peter Proud) and lately our loved one Shah Rukh Khan in many movies. The Theme is Exciting and definitely of entertainment value.
Let us see if this "Raaz Pichle Janam ka" becomes a milestone TV show or just vanishes in the thin air.
